Wonder Woman #07 rotting spoilers

I've touched on the Batman spoilers today, but they start off with the revelations about Diana and her people. It's a new low for DCnU.
It's a doozy and may not sit well with most of you. Heck, the new S_D protocols may even be triggered.

Shouldn't we have a tag for "everything you thought you knew was wrong."?

I guess Donna is going to have a say about this other brother, and I am not too fond of this darker, seedy Paradise Island. It honestly sounds like a brothel/labor camp of the gods than an ideal community led by women, made of women, for the women.

It's a society that excises an entire group of people in order to achieve perfection

Depends what their motivation for turning away was.

In past iterations they turned away from men because men A) killed their past lives before they were reborn as Amazons, and/or B) Because men betrayed them and raped their queen leading to a major war.

They were then isolated by the Gods to Themyscira to guard the gates to the Underworld.

When they finally achieved contact with the outside world again, they were mostly fair and open minded towards men.

I've always just perceived the Amazons as isolationists and female-supremacists. I read the myths before the comics, so that might be why. Also, while I detest everything else about the "New 52," it's come perilously close to making me interested in Wonder Woman for the first time. Even taking the merits of past iterations into account, I can't condemn this.

Because we've had few of those in fiction and a lot of those in reality right? Isn't we good that we now have a comic to defend those injusticed MRAs...

Sorry, not an insult. Mostly displaying my frustation with certain tropes of writing and how we're never rid of them. Your comment was just the one that set off my most immediate reaction.

Even when they were isolated to guard the Underworld, they did take up this position that they were the bastions of virtue and had nothing to gain by dealing with Man's World. Even if it's for good reasons, the pitfalls of isolationism happens to every society.

I personally like the idea that Diana as ambassador for Paradise Island teaches her sisters as much as she teaches Man's World.
