Once again, for those who missed it the first time, this is how Rob Liefeld described this series:

"Fans who have fallen away from the moronic depiction of Deadpool that has been presented of late will find Bloodstrike more their liking. This is modern, rogue, mercenary action-adventure." -- Rob Liefeld

You didn't read. The corruption of fiction/memes/conscious thought from the 90's warped space/time and leaked into your brain as this.

That's the name of that cartoon! As soon as I saw those guys, I was all "wasn't there a cartoon about mummies during the 90s? Action mummies?"

Yeah, it was, at the time, viewed as a successor to Gargoyles, and though Mummies Alive certainly wasn't without it's charms, it wasn't a patch on Gargoyles.

Really, even at the child I was at the time I still saw it as the bad TMNT clone it was.

It was bland and toyetic, but I rather liked their... novel treatment of some of the more obscure Egyptian deities, and the snarky relationship that the villains sentient staff had with him was fun.

It was no Gargoyles, or Visionaries, but I've seen a lot worse.

I was somewhat touched by that "All I had left of humanity" line untill it said "ENGAGING CRY SIMULATION". Way to ruin an actual moment there, comic.
But, who cares about that. MUMMIES WITH LAZARGUNZ!

B) I think it's the coloring, but I'm finding the art actually... Not bad. (at least on these panels) it ers on the side of "cartoonish" rather than "grotesque mockery of all that is human" I guess? There's still something wrong with the neck on the cover, and the arm in the panels, but still.

The interior art is by Francesco Gaston, unlike the cover which is by Liefeld. It's written by Tim Seeley of Hack/Slash. Liefeld's only connection to the book is having created the character.

Oh good. I was about to say, this seems more like a parody of Liefeld's works than Liefeld actually being the one who wrote and/or drew this.

If the entity known as Liefeld actually became self-aware to the extent he was willing to make a parody comic starring a character created as a parody of another character that he himself created, I think it would create a paradox that would collapse space and time.

But maybe someone call the Doctor. You know. Just in case.

The colouring is actually putting me off a bit, it's liked a cartoon filmed with the assumption that it's always sunset and the worlds largest diffuser is in low orbit.

I take it they're hoping that mummies are the new zombies?

That said, it doesn't look TERRIBLE, and I've liked Seeley's writing in the past, but it doesn't seem as risky or as different as what Extreme is doing with Glory and Prophet.

Ah, mummies are better than zombies because you can have a conversation with them and they have magical powers and stuff. Except for the times when they're Martian robots.

Well, I quite like the new Prophet, and I might like Glory if I can ever find a copy. (Neither of the local LCSs seem to have gotten enough issues, although I haven't had trouble getting copies of Prophet; either there wasn't a big print run, or they didn't like what they saw and didn't order enough, or it's just that good and will be reprinted, or some combination thereof.) However, I wasn't that impressed with Hack/Slash from what I've seen of it.

I picked up the latest issue on a lark, and the story wasn't bad--right now it's a fun/twisted take on giant monster films like King Kong mixed with The Most Dangerous Game. The only real downside was the art--it's the kind where you're almost absolutely certain that the artist in question has never seen a naked woman before, and since the first half involves our lead being naked for a good portion of it, it really stood out.

In fact, it's an entire planet of rogue mercenaries fighting over the 20% of civilian clients who keep them in business. These clients are only secretly staging wars in order to control the other 80% of the population.

...I'd read that.
