My reaction was pretty much the same as Hermes' here,

*Sigh* Another one of the female members of the female Bat Family members has bitten the dust, it appears. Though the question not arises as to whether Dinah, Barbara etc. know what happened to the original Helena, since Fake!Helena has been impersonating her for an unknown amount of time.

I think the issue here is how casually they're treating the death of another person. Helena here is outright stating "Poor Ms. Bertinelli...she served me well...She was real, Karen, you know...I only borrowed her after she well...died. Shame to waste such an interesting life," and Kara is just applauding her for her performance well done as a "mafia princess."

In these lines alone, both Kara and Helena are demonstrating they don't care at all for this person whose identity Helena stole posthumously, and are flaunting their lack of respect for a dead woman. so I can see why this would make them come off as callous and unpleasant. Either Kara and Helena are insensitive jerks in this new DCU or this is bad writing if this was meant to be framed with sensitivity.

Except we have no idea whether the original Helena Bertinelli was a person worthy of mourning. She may have been a thoroughly unpleasant piece of work who made use of her Mafia connections to be a very nasty person.

Just because she was interesting, doesn't mean she was nice.

doesn't the fact that she shares the name of a character who was a heroine pre reboot and that many readers loved mean that her namesake in this world should be treated with more respect?

"She served me well"

Even if she was really nasty, does she deserve to be used as a fake identity then tossed aside carelessly? After she's dead, too?

If she WAS nasty, why not? I don't mourn people whose lives I find reprehensible.

God would you stop implying that the namesake of a character people loved and who was awesome was an awful human being who deserved being talked about in negligent term by the person who usurped her identity. Please?

If I am causing upset, I will withdraw from the discussion. I thought I was trying to present a scenario which explained WHY Power Girl and Huntress might still be in character in reacting like this to a death which, I agree they would normally be more sympathetic about, no offence was intended and my apologies if any was.

Even if Helena Bertinelli was the most terrible person in this new DCU, that still doesn't make the handling of her off-screen death acceptable and doesn't do anything to paint Helena Wayne in a positive light. Instead it makes her look like an insensitive jerk who has no respect for the dead.

Regardless of how anyone else feels, Helena Bertinelli was a great character of her own right that many fans loved pre-reboot. The way she was handled here not only strips Bertinelli of all of her agency by turning her into a prop for Helena Wayne, but it even feels like it's gloating at Helena B fans in a "Helena Wayne is the *real* Huntress" sort of way, which is very disrespectful and unnecessary.

The fact that this is me saying this should say a lot about how this scene was executed.

That line bothered me for exactly those reasons too. I didn't feel Barbara was any less of a hero as Oracle just because she was confined to a wheelchair and had to hack databases and other devices as her MO. I also felt it devalued both Cassandra and Stephanie as worthy successors to the Batgirl mantle.
