[personal profile] sherkahn posting in [community profile] scans_daily has the latest tale of the current incarnation of the Defenders squad, with some horrible news opening up the issue.

The Immortal Weapons are dead.

Rest in peace, guys. you were introduced and kicked SO MUCH ASS! and were awesome to behold.

Yeah, it gets worse from there for Danny Rand.

Maybe the Phoenix is not a bad thing for him.

Also, as an aside, what the hell is with killing heroes off screen via mook or whatever? Seems like any time a hero dies, it's not in battle against a villain, but taken down by some mook, or stray bullet or mindless monster.

Why is it virtually no hero of late's actually gone down fighting a villain?

The last one I remember was the last Teen Titan's death (Kid Devil), and even that rang hollow because of the sheer amount of death that had proceeded it.

Yeah, and that death while heroic, was like the rest.

Cheap, overplayed death that could have been performed by anyone.

Lets have a hero go down swinging, already!

...and when I say swinging, I mean an actual, convincing fight. Not one that ends in several panels that might as well read 'writer throwing character under the bus!'

I like to think Skurge the Executioner should be the template for such a thing.

Not that there can't be other kinds of death. I actually liked the death of Headsman over in the Thunderbolts. The point of it was that it was tragic and random, even for a guy as violent and messed up as him.

But offscreen murders of established characters? Yeah, screw that.

Dc is famous for killing every single character that was created, then resurrecting some of them.

...Ok, not all of them were killed. A LOT of them were, though.

Not to mention the women fridging.

Not that I have any idea why MARVEL seems to be aiming to do the same O.o

From what I hear Hybrid's death was a pointless one

Wasn't Hybrid a mind controlling monster through?

I was meaning the merged Symbiote Hybrid who was a New Warrior. Apparently Eddie Brock killed him and the symbiotes were separated.

Wanda's been feeling better lately and she was the only one with the OK from Marvel higher-ups to kill heroes in an actual fight?
