Superheroine Webcomic!

Now, many of you know of Spinnerette and Superhero Girl.

But there's a third recent good superheroine-focused webcomic out there, Grrl Power!

Ironically when it first started I'd figure it'd be totally cheesecake, but it's really good stuff and the main character's yet to so much as even touch spandex and generally goes around in a non-form-fitting tshirt. In fact, it's only now 80 strips when a couple government employees are interviewing her that we discover what her powers are.

So behold the secret of.... HALO'S LAST NAME!

Oh, and also her powers.






(Logan Scoville? James Scoville...? He has so many names to begin with! I'm sure she'll make him go by 'Wolverine Scoville' for simplicity's sake)

She presumably have a few more but that's as far as the comic's gotten :)

She's not always that off-the-wall and not everyone in the strip is like her, but in any case I like it :)

Looks kinda cute. Not a huge fan of the obvious manga influence, but hey, different strokes and all.

When my folks got married, my mom kept her last name. They decided that, when I was born, if I was a girl I'd take my mom's last name and if I was boy, I'd take my dad's. The opposite gendered parent's last name would become the middle name.

I think that's what I'm gonna do with my kid, unless my partner has a very awesome (or terrible) last name.


Also, if you're looking for good female super web-comics, I gotta recommend Sidekick Girl. It's pretty awesome.

In the background of the comicshop that a couple strips take place in, there's a lot of comics with similarly manga-inspired art (like Gold Digger), so there's no question where that influence comes from :)

Well, not I've got another hero comic to add to my read list (Superhero Girl in this case).

Almost forgot about Grrl Power. Glad to see a rather interesting power set for our lead heroine here.

That looks like fun, though I think I hold to my philosophy that anyone who uses the term "explodey beams" should not be allowed to HAVE explodey beams.

Having just slammed through the entire collection, I can confirm that no sane deity would ever allow Sydney Scoville Jr control of anything that could be described as an "explodey beam," and therefore must conclude that either this comic is proof that the atheists are right, or the real name of the ultimate deity is Azothoth.

I'm still trying to decide.

my only real complaint with the series is it only updates once a week, so it has taken close to 2 years to get to the point where the main character actually reveals her powers.

also, you left out my favorite bit where Maxima (the gold lady for those of you who don't follow the series) accuses Sidney of being telekinetic the entire time and just messing with them.

More seriously, I didn't list her because she's in such a different mental category for me than these original-character-story-oriented comics.

I don't mind the anime style as a whole, but I hate the really low glasses look. It drives me nuts.

That said, I doubt I'm going to be reading this, anyway. I find Sydney pretty annoying and cliche. I would be way more interested in reading if the yellow-skinned, purple-haired lady (don't think her name was mentioned here) was the main character.

I'm not really a fan of comics where every character is drawn in a different style. I'd be interested in seeing the art a year from now, if the artists gets more comfortable and finds their own style that encompasses the different characters and personality more evenly.
