The recent Green Lantern Vs. Aliens post by [profile] superfangirl reminded me of this story...

Superman borrows a LexCorp starship to reach the city in his vision.

Didn't the creators want to bring THIS Kara back as THE Kara/Supergirl (since technically she no longer existed post-Crisis). I remember reading that. It would have been interesting and given her a whole new introduction.

Considering all the connections, it would've made a lot of sense.

On another topic, I'm all for Heroes with a code vs killing criminals, but I don't think that applies to monstrous creatures like the Xenomorphs.

Yeah, I don't think there's any indication, anywhere in the franchise, that the Aliens are sentient - at least in the way we understand it. Excellent problem solving abilities, yes, but the closest one comes to being... IDK, self-aware? Able to conceive of abstract concepts? is the Alien-human hybrid. It seems to be able to to conceive of betrayal.

The original alien knew enough to go hide itself in the escape lifeboat when the Nostromo was counting down to its self-destruct. Though perhaps it was acting on orders from Jonesy...

The comics that came after Aliens, but went out of continuity after Alien 3, hinted to their intelligence very strongly. Telepathic influence to break out when captured, chestbursters timing their emergence for maximum expansion of the outbreak, the mother queen allowing itself to be captured so that it could join its children...

The later comics haven't really adopted that much of the traits, though. The low level tp appears occasionally, but that's about it.

Wow, I recall these! This one was cool. The Batman vs Aliens was wack, though. Batman vs Predator was good, I think...

Nope. No complex language or culture. They'll kill each other if it means helping their own situation. The things really are just organic weapons. They live only to kill and breed. That's it.

In fairness, Superman could not know that, and an individual Alien is like an adorable, harmless kitten compared to someone like, say, the Joker.

Yes, when they actually crossed Joker with a Xeno it proved to be less deadly than the original.

They crossed... damn. You wouldn't happen to have any scans of that?

Unfortunately not. It happened in Batman vs Aliens 2, if that helps any. The whole thing was pretty forgettable, truth to be told, so don't expect too much if you happen to find it.

Am I the only one mildly squicked by the weird looking patch of chest hair on page 5, mid panel? It looks so odd

Nope! I'm just happy whenever comics acknowledge that dudes have hair down there. I mean, come on people. Not all guys are naturally without body hair. (Or waxers.)

It's nice to see that Supes is at least trying to avoid judging the Xenomorphs on appearance alone. Most people would probably immediately freak out at seeing one. TBF, freaking out and trying to run / kill it with fire is the best response when dealing with a Xenomorph.

Is this a nineties hero in a grittydark story, throwing away a gun and standing by his moral code, however inconvenient it may be? How did this slip through?

From: [personal profile] md84
I know right? The worst thing the nineties did to Supes was give him the mullet. That's how strong his moral code is.

The 90s featured a great deal of suck and was a harsh time for the retrospect. Many things that seemed popular were, in fact, a direct reason for the hardships that comics would (and continue to) face.

...BUT. There were also many, MANY good comics that came out in the 90s that were not the epitome of grimdark, big guns and patches. I once listed some of them in a thread past. For every crappy comic of the time, there were many great ones, too.

Neil Gamain's Sandman? 1989-1996
Jame Robinson's Starman? 1994-2001
Kurt Busiek's Astro City? 1996-2010
Mike Mignola's Hellboy? 1993-2012

I could go on. Bone. The Authority. Preacher. The Invisibles. Mark Waid on the Flash. Busiek's Thunderbolts. All of Milestone comics. Planetary. Transmetropolitan. Marvels. Kingdom Come. Busiek and Perez's Avengers run. Giffen's LSH. And so on.

The problem is that many folks only remember stuff like Image creators getting on jeans commercials, and not much of the quality stuff that came out. The 90s was actually a great time for just all came crashing down.

Loved this series..

Always thought this was the best of the DC Dark Horse movie crossovers..(Didn't much care for the Predator ones..and actively despised the Terminator ones..)

Though you've missed my own favourite parts..(understandable given how much great stuff there is in this one..) Always loved that shot of the Alien try to bite Lois and smashing it's teeth on Supes arm..(complete with the Supes sign on his bandaged arm)
And the thought of a chest burster failing to burst Supermans chest and him having to regurgitate it instead was incredibly amusing. Man of Steel indeed..

Aww, man. You skipped the best part where Superman describes in great detail about being orally raped by a face hugger!
