Soft g, then eye-row. I really need to learn IPA.

It does sound pretty similar when Phil Lynott sings it. Also 'giro' was a real word I recognised (and you might use it to pay for a bottle of whiskey when it arrives, so it makes sense in context), while 'jar...o' really wasn't.

But remember, if you're not a Brit, or even if you just grew up in a different region from me, then the boundaries between what you consider to be one vowel sound and another are going to be massively different from mine!
