Why I like Scarlet Spider
Six scans from Scarlet Spider #5
For those who are unaware, the series follows Kaine (yes, the clone) in Houston after he failed to leave things alone and guilt-tripped himself into protecting the city.
And somehow, he's made friends with a doctor, a policeman (who you'll see down in the scans, who's married to the doctor) a barmaid, and a teenage girl who's an illegal immigrant who he personally protects because of reasons.
It's awesome.
And while he keeps insisting he's the bad guy, Houston adores their new hero. And he can't bring himself to prove them wrong.
Although sometimes:

In this issue, they're looking for a nuclear bomb that's set to blow up the area, and their biggest lead offs himself.

And, you guessed it, the spiders tell him where the bomb is!

The usual art's better, but this issue's cool too. I loved this one because, aside from being completely pointless to the rest of the series (because that's always fun), it basically shows how Kaine tries to be that dark, broody guy who needs to give everything up and run, and fails.
He makes friends, he protects people, he (despite what he says) likes being the hero people love.
It's a gem, really, it is.

But it's terribly interesting, and exciting. And scary.

I especially like the relationships he's formed: Friends and sort of protectors of Donald, and Officer Layton; nuisance and trustworthy friend of Anabelle; and personal protector and caretaker of Aracely.

Oh, and I cracked up at the him wanting to be "Dark Spider" instead.

Don't judge me. :(
That being said, I do like what I've seen of this series. Kaine's one of my favorite bits of the Clone Saga.

Well they show it a lot in flashbacks, and he still has the nineties hair in the first bit :) So if you pick up the first issue, you won't be disappointed. He cut the hair so he wouldn't be recognized, but OMG he was hot with the hair );

But I like the color, and the top half.

I don't know XD In the last page, they were crawling all over the bomb.
As for the educational system, I would assume Kaine showed them WITH HIS MIND how a bomb would generally look like. IDK. I just think it's awesome that he could totally be the spider-whisperer, to help people in peril with his spider eyes and ears (do spiders have ears) everywhere.

I'm impressed. They 'did the research'.

Hahah, either way, it looks legit.

:) Admittedly that's why I picked up the first issue, because I was researching for a school speech about positive LGBT portrayals and stumbled on Scarlet Spider. And they are brilliant characters with their own separate, interesting personalities.
