And it just occured to be that getting mysteriously pregnant is something that she has in common with Power Girl, who pre-Crisis (I think) she was impregnanted by the universe for some reason (yeah, really). Since this was shortly after she slept with Hal Jordan, he naturally decided to act like an ass and start yelling at her for denying that it was his baby.

You forgot that he was later Anti-lifed during Darkseid's reign... though in his case that was possibly a step UP in terms of depressing events.
