This time released by Dreamworks--more Pitch Black, by Johane Matte, Perry Maple and WoonYoung Jung.
Johane Matte, by the way, is Rufftoon, who is STILL drawing ROTG comics on Tumblr even now.

"NICHOLAS ST. NORTH!" (aka Santa Claus)
He (enthusiastically) asks Pitch to ally himself with him.
"What makes you think I would be interested in alliances?"
North explains that they all became Guardians--he, Tooth and Sandy--to keep children safe. He also explains that the Man in the Moon gave them those roles, chose them to become Guardians.

1) Pitch's outfit bears a startling resemblance to movie!Loki and
2) I love this story. The movie, and all its extensions, and the book it sprung from, I badly want to read.
So many artists have gotten into this movie. Like, for example, the captivating Phobs:

Who is creating a 14-page comic based on Pitch's backstory.
Basically, he had a daughter. A daughter who eventually became Mother Nature, after she lost him to the Fearlings, which made him what he is now.
The stories behind each Guardian are amazing, guys, honestly.

And, before I cap this all off, here's what I did in the span of 30 minutes after watching the movie:

I want to clarify that Soft pastels are an incredibly difficult medium to control, seeing as they're like chalk, but smudgier and harder to erase.
Plus I borked up his hand and the arm length, but I like how this turned out anyway :)
Also, can we have a Rise of the Guardians tag? :)) I may make more posts after this one.

Date: 2012-12-01 01:03 am (UTC)Now the person who drew it is an artist on Tumblr who I can assume was commissioned by Dreamworks to do this particular piece, but Rufftoon also does fancomics.
BASICALLY it's a fancomic artist who got to do an official work for Dreamworks, which is the one you see above.
The people who worked on ROTG said they wanted to expand the universe, so they're doing it via comics.

---from Wiki---
Although the film is based on the Joyce's book series, it contains differences from the books. The book series, begun in 2011, explains the origins of the characters, while the film takes place about 200 years after the books, and shows how the characters function in present time. Joyce explained, "Because I don't want people to read the book and then go see the movie and go, 'Oh, I like the book better', and I also didn't want them to know what happens in the movie. And I also knew that during the progress of film production, a lot of things can change. So I wanted to have a sort of distance, so we were able to invoke the books and use them to help us figure out the world of the movie, but I didn't want them to be openly competitive to each other.
