Young Justice #25 (final issue)

Four pages from YOUNG JUSTICE #25, the series's final issue...

January 16, 16:16 UTC+2, Team Year One:

Two thoughts:

1. The second issue of this arc set up a sub-plot about how Dr. Fate/Zatarra has been mysteriously MIA for a long time. With the cancellation, I guess that will never be resolved.

2. By the end of the issue, Plastic Man is permanently stuck at 25% bigger than everyone else because he was caught in Brainiac, er, the Collector of World's enlarging beam. I'm going to have to go back and check this season's episodes to see if he was drawn as extra-tall (though given his powers, I suppose there's no reason he has to stay that way.)

Also, in an interview, Greg Weisman mentioned some planned storylines for the comic that will now obviously not see the light of day (http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/WF/youngjustice/backstage/interview11.php):

"Well, the Arrow Family arc would have adapted the Earth-16 version of the DC Showcase short film that I wrote, which featured Green Arrow, Black Canary, Merlyn, Count Vertigo, Henchy and Perdita. But it also would have involved Artemis, Red Arrow's life as an unwitting mole and the death of Perdita's father. The Marvel Family story would have introduced Billy's three best school friends: Freddy Freeman, Kit Freeman and Mary Bromfield."

I'm sad this and the show are ending.

Wait...
Let me get this straight...

Did Dick seriously just get laid by Bette Kane one night and then Barbara the next (not to mention the birthday kisses from Zatanna and Rocket in between)?

comics need to be less concerned with synergy or whatever they call it. Let stories that sell, continue to sell

I wish Wiseman's Earth could have been the reboot NuDC Earth instead of the rush job we've ended up with. It seems much more thought out. I wonder if "Kit Freeman" would have been Freddy's relative who became Kid Eternity and I wonder if they would have drawn him as Classic Elvis-ish Freddy or the new 52 blonde version.

This issue felt rushed, but mostly I'm just sad that it's ending. There goes the last current DC title that I was buying.

So wait, what is Queen Bee doing to people to mind control them?

Pheromones, though I'd also believe hair tousling.

I kinda figured, it just wasn't made clear.

That's his superpower.

I thought Queen Bee couldn't control women?

Slept with Bette, no but not necessarily with Babs ("You're not ready for me... yet"), though some making out time seems likely.

And he does joke that staying on good terms with all his ex's is his actual superpower.

Sadly, the toy line tanked, so the cartoon series ended, and since this comic is more closely tied to the series than any other tie-in I can think of, it's sort of had it's life support cut off.

Given this shows love of comics history, Kit Freeman would pretty much have to be Freddy's older brother who was revealed to be Kid Eternity back in the Don Newton pencilled Shazam stories in the 1980's.

The YJ one can, I think... though maybe if the woman is potentially sexually attracted to women (lesbian or bisexual) she can...

As stated in the series, she has the power to control the minds of (most) men, as well as some women.

Yes, they actually phrased it like that. Word up to the show for aknowledging the existance of people who are into the same gender or neither. :)

That's pretty much what they implied in the show, yes.

They also implied it doesn't work on guys who are into dudes either.

But it apparently works on prepubescent little boys. The scene with Queen Bee stroking Gar's face tenderly while threatening to make him hurt/kill himself if Miss Martian didn't play nice? Creepy.

His childhood friend/unrequited love interest got killed and then he found out that Aquaman was lying to him about who his real father was, which lead Kaldur to go evil.

Or so it seemed.

He was actually doing a deep, deep undercover operation with Nightwing to find out more about the like through Black Manta by pretending that Kal went to the dark side.

I interpreted that as her saying "you're not ready for a relationship with me yet", and that she's fine with keeping it open and casual until then, with the implication being that that's where they'll eventually end up.

This take on Dick seems to be a lot more relaxed (laid back might NOT be the right word to use) about such things than his comic book equivalent (Well, pre DCnU) so that works! :)

The fact she can convince people to do things they wouldn't want to do suggests it's a lot more than "just" pheremones, most likely psionic, but the pheremones make her life easier, as might a younger, less disciplined mind.

Yes, that implies that pre-pubescent boys already have a sexual preference, and perhaps even sexual urges... Lord knows as a 10 or 11 year old, I NEVER had thoughts about girls... no, wait a minute... I did every single day. It may be uncomfortable for some to talk about the sexuality of young kids, but that doesn't mean it isn't there.

My headcanon for this show is that he also meets and gets involved with Kory sometime during the five-year gap.

Though it saddens me that the toy sales took priority over the viewership and comic book sales-- it reduces Weisman's refreshing and original take on established characters to a thinly-veiled toy marketing campaign.
