One of the biggest problems with the Team Wolverine vs. Team Cyclops feud is that both sides come off as petulant, sniping teenagers ("You brought this on yourself." "You REALLY did"). Like, Jean actually is 16, what's their excuse?

This seems pretty out of character for Jean, in my opinion. If she wanted Warren to stay, she'd try talking instead of telepathy. It seems more in character for her to get pissed that he doesn't want to stay with them and storm off. Then again, her going all LEEEROY JEEEEANKINS at a group of opponents without thinking first is pretty in character for her.

I don't know how to feel about this.

Also, duh Stepford Cuckoos, you're better than the "The Great Jean Grey," she had her telepathy unlocked, like, a day ago.

her getting her telepathy unlocked might also be why that instead of talking is her new default setting. she just learned to do this.

also, aside from warren, her future is the most effed up.

The follow-up scene between Jean and Kitty does a good job of explaining why Jean lashes out like this, and she realizes she crossed the line. But Kitty & co. seriously need to get an experienced telepath/telekinetic to train her (Rachel Rachel Rachel Rachel *ahem*), because pep talks are not going to be enough.

The X-Men should really have an on-staff therapist for helping time-displaced, back-from-the-dead, omnipotent teenagers. God knows they'd be busy.

Well, she probed Hank's mind and saw her Future Self's entire life, including both of her deaths. She even felt (somehow) all the events from an emotional and physical standpoint. As such experiencing your death, the genocide you committed under possession, the loss of a child, your clone, Sinister, having three time streamed adult children, an affair, a marriage, not to mention every battler EVER her personality has undergone a rather dark change. And understandably so, I think.

i have to say, i agree with magneto and cyclops. (though in reality a combination of both thier schools would work better. Protect the students while teaching them to protect themselves. Wolvie and co seem to be fixated on keeping the kids out of trouble to thier detriment)

Hank fucked up messing with the time stream (though he did get a new look out of it. has Agent Brand commented on this?)

[personal profile] darkknightjrk 2013-05-01 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wolvie and co seem to be fixated on keeping the kids out of trouble to thier detriment"

I don't know about that. I mean, the whole school is basically a big Danger Room, they have combat classes, and in the current story arc Logan took a bunch of the kids on a field trip to the Savage Land. The difference is that Logan is focused on giving the kids a safe place where they can learn how to control their powers and learn to be themselves, whereas with Scott, while that's important to him too, he's focused on actively going out in the world and making things better for Mutants. It's the difference between a colonist and a freedom fighter.

Some time travellers should be more secretive about it.

"Hey, how did you know that would happen?"

"I didn't know it was going to have happened."

"Huh?"

"I mean, I didn't know it happened. I didn't know the future. At all. I'm not a time traveller."

I can understand Bendis not wanting to rush a Rachel & Jean reunion, but Rachel's absence here is getting pretty unbelievable. (Like, we should at least see her talking to Kitty about Jean--and have we seen her reaction to the baby X-Men at all?) Jean really needs Rachel's help.

Actually it's explained in Wolverine & the X-Men that Rachel is away looking for the people that shot Broo, following a false trail (it's also kind of a punishment from wolverine for her hunting him during AVX). That's why she isn't appearing on W&XM where she usually is.

Here's a thing that I never goddamn understood about the way the X-Men are written; these are basically kids with incredible powers, which means that certain situations can escalate very badly. So you'd think that most people would exercise a certain level of patience ...?

I know, comic books, dumb question.

Also, I agree with other posters that everyone is coming off as a dick, but wow, way to go with the immature sniping Emma. Jean is a TEENAGER here, so snarking about her 'sainthood' just makes you look like a jealous brat.

I adore the art though. Can anyone tell me who the artist is?
northstarfan: (Default)

[personal profile] northstarfan 2013-05-01 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
There are a couple other panels that seem to hint that this is Emma getting her own back against teen!Jean for what adult!Jean did to her back in the Morrison run.

I've pretty much loathed Emma since the Kyle/Yost NXM run and this just reminds me why.

And the art (which yes, lovely!) is by Stuart Immonen.

You know, for as many nits as I can pick over Astonishing's pacing, roster, plot choices and occasional overuse of the Idiot Ball, at the end of the day, I can at least say I still like most of the characters. Everything I've seen coming out of Uncanny, ANAD, UA, UXF and WatXM makes me just want to throw up my hands and finish with the just not giving a damn about this franchise.

The silver lining is that at least the X-Fans are kind of spoiled for choice right now. I really hope Brian Wood's X-Men is good. Fingers and toes crossed.

I feel so bad for young Warren. He found out what happened to his future self, he wasn't able to go back to the past like he wanted, and one of his teammates was mind-controlling him to stop him from leaving.

I gotta say, after Teen!Jean's incredibly dickish prior influencing of Teen!Angel I really enjoyed seeing her get just completely outclassed by the Stepford Cuckoos, and Warren getting to go off with some people who actually want to protect him properly.

I also loved that "Logan, please." moment with Magneto, everything I've seen posted of Logan in this series has been completely unlikable, so it was fun to see him thrown around. Though that costume on Magneto still does nothing for me.

[personal profile] silicondream 2013-05-03 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
So has Logan ever thought about killing teenJean? If he wants to murder someone to prevent Xavier's death, Jean would probably work as well as young Scott. Plus you'd save all the broccoli people Dark Phoenix killed.

Or is Scott just that much less sexy to him?
auggie18: (Default)

[personal profile] auggie18 2013-05-03 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you wouldn't really be saving those broccoli people because without Jean, then Emperor D'ken would've used the M'Kraan Crystal to destroy the universe. Then everyone would've died.

Because everyone lives in the universe.
