Here's a thing that I never goddamn understood about the way the X-Men are written; these are basically kids with incredible powers, which means that certain situations can escalate very badly. So you'd think that most people would exercise a certain level of patience ...?

I know, comic books, dumb question.

Also, I agree with other posters that everyone is coming off as a dick, but wow, way to go with the immature sniping Emma. Jean is a TEENAGER here, so snarking about her 'sainthood' just makes you look like a jealous brat.

I adore the art though. Can anyone tell me who the artist is?

There are a couple other panels that seem to hint that this is Emma getting her own back against teen!Jean for what adult!Jean did to her back in the Morrison run.

I've pretty much loathed Emma since the Kyle/Yost NXM run and this just reminds me why.

And the art (which yes, lovely!) is by Stuart Immonen.

You mean when she made the X-Kids fight each other to see who would get to stay right after the bus explosion? Yeah, she was pretty awful there.

Honestly, petty sniping seems to be a lot of what writers have Emma do nowadays, which seems like a big disservice to her character. Having her constantly smack talking Jean has also done nothing to elevate my opinion of her, particularly since she keeps making fun of a dead woman to said dead woman's friends. (It actually makes me think less of a lot of the X-Men, especially Beast.)

And her treatment of Laura. And doing jack-all to find Kevin when he ran away. And going along with Scott on the whole "Xavier's dead! Everyone out of the pool! PTSD? What PTSD?" during Divided We Stand.

I don't particularly care how snotty Emma is to the other adults in her orbit. But every time a writer tries to sell me on "No, really, Emma's harsh but she cares about the kids!", it rings false given the moments of disregard or petty cruelty that keep cropping up around the kids.

Generally, I just pretend this is a Skrull and GenX-era Emma is still in a tube somewhere, dreaming her terrible vengeance.

There is a really great story out there--it was posted here, but I can't find it--where Rachel is having an extended mental breakdown and lashes out telepathically at Emma by making her appear hugely obese and bloated in her White Queen costume in front of Cyclops and the other X-Men, accusing her of only getting by on her looks and sniping about plastic surgery and basically being a fed-up furious teenager.

And Emma--still in the hugely-obese form--calmly draws Scott towards her for a kiss and informs Rachel that Scott loves her for her mind, not her looks, and that she does understand what she's going through, and that it's okay. And that moment honestly sold me on Emma Frost: selfish, vain, stuck-up, snotty, and at the same time clever, snarky, and ultimately heroic.

Where did that Emma go?

Really? Because when I read that scene, I thought Emma was going 'No matter what you do or say, your daddy is with ME and not your mother, ha ha', although admittedly I have not seen that scene in ages.

That scene also came after Emma called Rachel a cow and said she should have been never been born, so it's hard to give her credit there.

Really? Aw man, and I totally (mis)remembered that as one of my favourite moments in comics. :(

Actually, I think you're fine. Here's the scene in question, from Uncanny X-Men #452 (1, 2, 3). I really can't see how it could be read as Emma bragging about being with Scott instead of Jean and no one calls anyone a cow who shouldn't have been born before, during or after the fight (...that happened in Uncanny X-Men #444 - 1, 2). ;)

Huh, that's weird, they work for me. Try this. Hope that works and if not let me know and I'll try something else. :)

Emma's "lesson" also comes across as pretty hypocritical since in Uncanny we just saw her asking the Cuckoos to tell her what Jean was thinking about. *insert Kitty Pryde's "You teach ETHICS?" comic panel here*

She wasn't forcing Jean to do anything, warping her mind, making her forget her emotions, or, doing the pragmatically-smart-yet-evil-thing and just getting the Cuckoos to edit her stance on all of this.

She just looked, despite all the opportunity, I think Emma has more than a leg to stand on here.

Yeah, I liked Emma quite a bit in Gen X and during her villain days, but she's been trash as a character since. Jealous brat, indeed.

Petty, nasty, constantly making cruel remarks about a dead woman, hypocritical, and just plain cruel - I haven't bought her as a hero ever since Gen X and it's even more unbelievable that any of the X-Men, especially Ororo, Hank, or Logan, would buy it either.
