Ms. Marvel #1

The second issue came out on Comixology this week, so this should no longer be the most recent issue. But it was still pretty hard to choose which parts of this to post.

The issue opens in a convenience store, Circle Q, where Kamala and Nakia are talking with their friend (and employee of the store) Bruno.

In walks Zoe Zimmer and Josh [last name unavailable]. Josh extends invitation to a party on the waterfront.

Back at home (presumably after school) Kamala's Avengers fan-fiction is interrupted as she's called to dinner.

Tempers flare, and Kamala goes / is sent to her room. She decides to sneak out to go to the party anyway.

The party does not go well, and Kamala stomps off to go home. However, the Terrigen mists spread over the city and Kamala blacks out, falling unconscious on the sidewalk. She wakes to see Captain Marvel reciting Amir Khusrow's "The Yellow Mustard is Blooming" in Urdu, while Captain America and Iron Man translate it to English. Kamala responds appropriately.

Around 6 2/3 pages of 20.

A bit of a change-up, with the Pakistani character (and her family) being the more secular one and the Turkish one being more religious.

Though someone should tell the colorist that Muslim does not equal brown. If Nakia is Turkish, she should be no darker than the Greeks Hercules and Elektra or Italian-American Frank Castle.

It worked. I may have to grab this at some point.

I've lived in Turkey, and I met plenty of browner people over there. Nakia might be mostly Turkish but also have other ancestry; I'm British and caramel-toned, as my maternal grandparents were Sri-Lankan immigrants.

Yeah I'm brown myself too with a blonde mum and sis.. But I dislike that in west, they easily go with brown with Turkish people. They wrongly stereotype us with other Muslim countries. :/
