Transformers: Windblade #3

"My strategy was to backtrack her design into a character. Work from the outside in, as it were. It was pretty clear she had a very important, formal position. But, because I don't like any of my character's lives to be easy, I thought it would be more interesting to make that a major contrast in her. So Windblade became a very hopeful, youthful character trying to fill a role that's a little too big for her. Everything else built from there," she explained.

...

"I, personally, am working toward the future, and the future I want to see is one where more little kids, and grown men, and teenage girls—where more people like Transformers and get joy from it," Scott said. "It's not the grandest dream, but it's mine."

When last we left our hopeful, youthful heroine, she was deep in the bowels of Metroplex (I think literally) with a posse of drunks and reporters. Um... that might not have been the best help you could have gotten, Windblade.

Apparently she thinks so, too, because she turns into a jet and flies off.

"What about you?!" Man, I love bodyguard characters.

So, there's a fight that gets broken up when Starscream arrives.

So Chromia takes Windblade and leaves the others to fight off the prison guards. They're running to Metroplex's brain, where... something strange appears to be going on.

I gotta say, I loved this issue. Starscream sets up Windblade so that he could capture her and her group, allowing him to position himself as a savior protecting people from these terrorists, which is a perfectly Starscream plot. And then we get the twist that he did not, in fact, set them up the bomb at all! Which I really didn't see coming.

I know it's not the same character as the TV show, but Rattrap as torturer is just .... WRONG on all sorts of levels.

I actually thought this issue was the weakest of the mini, mostly because of the fight scene not posted. I had a very difficult time following it. The artist is very good at faces and expressions but the action scenes will need some work.

I'm definitely liking what I'm seeing of IDW's Transformers comics. I'll have to start picking up a few.

And get the Windblade toy when it comes out later this year, of course.

Does it help if he is only torturing her because he thinks that she is a terrorist who is trying to bomb them all to the Pit while they are grasping for their first chance at peace after 4 million years of war?

Damn Starscream. An evil giant robot has no right to look that hot.

I appreciate the effort, but given what we've seen of his personality so far; no, not really. Rattrap acts to benefit himself first, last and always, I don't think he really cares about the rest of Cybertron.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. The old marvel comics are a bit hit-and-miss, but that's still a bunch of the IDW comics for $15.

I really loved this mini-series for story & art.

He has a surprisingly large fanbase, including a couple of ones on DeviantArt which have chibi versions of him... It's one of those things that reassure me that I'm NOT necessarily the weirdest person in a given room.

They gave him supermodel legs and stiletto high heels in TFP. They HAD to know what they were unleashing!

Not to mention the wings that move like a cat's ears when he is scared and do a little flutter when he is happy.

Lord help me, I may actually be the weirdest person in the room now

holy shit, that's a lot of books. I'm guessing TF Classics are Marvel-era titles? damn, this is actually very tempting.
