Alas, alack, this is the last of this four-issue miniseries! But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks? Windblade, her writer Mairghread Scott, and her artist Sarah Stone shall be returning in an on-going series and the upcoming crossover "Combiner Wars"!

So we see a really different side of Windblade, one trying to hold her own in the shadowy political world of Cybertron (a world Starscream is the undisputed master of) while still trying to hold onto some sort of moral compass. The question for Windblade in "Combiner Wars" is really: How far can you go in the name of good until you aren't good anymore? When does the end stop justifying the means?

--Mairghread Scott

When last we left our confused heroine, she had found out that Starscream did not set the bomb that nearly killed her in the first issue. And now, after her Chromia-led jailbreak, she's fleeing from Starscream and his forces while wracking her brains over who else could have been behind these events. Chromia and she run to Metroplex.

Unfortunately, Starscream breaks in and takes down Chromia.

I really like how this artist does the eyes for the Cybertronians. I hope we see more of this style in the future from time to time.

Chromia straight up murdered three innocent people? Oof!

So it seems - depraved-heart murder at best.

Plus, I'm fairly certain that part of being a bodyguard is "Don't blow up the person you're protecting."

Edit: How populated was the area that got bombed in issue 1?

Yeah, I didn't like what this did with Chromia.

Were they named, or just background filler?

And was willing to kill thousands more by having Metroplex spacebridge. Brutal, and it suggests things on their homeworld are even worse then Windblade implies if she's that desperate.

My biggest complaint about this issue is that Chromia suffers no consequences for her actions besides losing Windblades trust and respect. But given that we've already gotten some details on the second Windblade mini-series, along with the Combiner Wars story arc that follows on from the events of this issue, I don't think she's going to get away with it forever.

I think this has been said before, but I really like Starscream's characterization in this. A guy who is at his core a selfish egomaniac, who realizes that it's far more satisfying for his ego to be hailed as a hero of the people than feared (and targeted for assassination) as their tyrannical ruler. And yet because he's a selfish egomaniac and not a genuinely heroic person, he's more than willing to do underhanded or outright corrupt things to get his way. Pretty complex stuff for a series about giant transforming robots shooting each other.

Reminds me a little of Dini's take on the Riddler, an egomaniac who realises that if he can't defeat Batman as a criminal, then the best thing to do is prove himself the better detective. Still a nasty person at heart, but consumed by his NEED to be better than Batman SOMEHOW.

I was a little iffy on Windblade, I'll admit. That last page, though, sold me.

I like how Starscream fights in the recent stuff- he's not actually better than Chromia strait up, but he's an opportunist, and he makes opportunities to get the other side to mess up.
