To me the biggest issue was that a lot of stuff was going on in other titles. I mean for example Karn turning over a new leaf and deciding to help the Spider-Men occurred in the Spider-Verse anthology. Ben Reilly, Kaine and Ultimate Jessica destroying the cloning machine happened in the Scarlet Spiders miniseries. A lot of the character interactions also occurred elsewhere.
On one hand I get that there's only so much space to tell a story but on the other I look at something like Civil War which, as much as people here hate it, still managed to tell a self-contained story with the tie-in titles fleshing out their respective characters as opposed to major events and deaths occurring outside of the main mini.
