East of West #3 - Family Bonding Time

eastofwest03preview

"East of West is also a book of big themes and big characters, something that's always nice.

But in its simplest, most distilled form, it's a love story that takes place at the end of the world.

This time, I'll focus solely on the wife of Death and all of the scenes with her and her family.

Always bothers me that the go-to insult that people think Chinese use is 'dog'. We can be a lot more creative than that, people. Hell, one of our zodiac animals IS a dog, how insulting do you think the term actually is?

I don't know- speaking as a westerner, one of our Zodiac symbols is Cancer, and that's not a super nice thing to call someone.

Having lived in China, it seems more like the most immediately hurtful would be "pig", but in the west it has different connotations so it wouldn't translate well. "Pig-dog" would be a nice compromise, but then that seems more reminiscent of WW2-era German caricatures.
