It seems apt, and sporting,  to offer a hearty congratulations to the US Women's Soccer team on their win in the World Cup!

Now, it's that time of the month to make your requests to your fellow community members.

Have a story in mind you'd like to see posted? Ask the community!

Have scans for a story one of your fellow citizens wishes to see? Post it to the comm!

Still have a story that you've requested in the past but haven't seen yet? Request it again. Someone might have it now!

Please put your requests in the comments below!

Could I make a request unrelated to scans?

A long time ago Scans_Daily let members both post scans of comics and make other types of posts (interesting articles and promotions, interviews, etc). After some type this rule was changed to avoid cluttering the community, and two different communities were created: this Scans_Daily here on Dreamwidth for scans, and Noscans_Daily on LJ.

I'd like to mak a proposal. Since LJ is dead now, and since DW!Scans_Daily has a much lower rate of new entries, could we start allowing users to make other types of posts here again?

There was a series of Twitters from Gail Simone I really wanted to link some time ago, and some extremely interesting offers from the Humble Bundle site.

I second this, though I think there should still be at least one scan for legality in such posts.

noscans_daily was not formed "to avoid cluttering the community"

Why was it formed, then? You couldn't post scans on it, so it couldn't be to leave a community to those who preferred to remain in LJ when we had to leave after the Peter David mess.

Off the top of my head, to keep the community of people that had developed and already had LJ account together on LJ.

From reading the first post from the modteam on it, and the rules, it looks like

Welcome to noscans_daily, a community for posting discussion of comic books, manga, comic strips and webcomics. It is NOT for posting comic scans, webcomics, previews or anything else like that. Anything that you do post like this will be deleted and you may be banned.

I'm endlessly fascinated by this Peter David mess. It all seems very mysterious. I would watch a documentary about it.

Eh, it's not that mysterious.

Dude saw scans of his comics posted in the community (to be fair, back then the rule was that you could post half of a comic instead of 1/3. Still, the rule was that the post had to be taken down immediately if the writer or artist of the comic requested it because the community always respected the wishes of the authors, and plenty of big shots authors had been showing up at the community for years and never had a problem with it). Instead of contacting the mods, who would have immediately deleted the post, he went to complain directly to LiveJournal. LJ used the common sense, restraint and intelligence they were well known for (like when somebody told them that some LJ users may have been pedophiles, so they mass banned any and all users and communities that had "rape" listed among their interests, even a literary criticism community that had been discussing Lolita and a community for support for rape survivors), and basically told Scans_Daily to gtfo.

Apparently PD later said that he didn't actually mean to get the community kicked out and he didn't expect LJ to overreact like that. Apparently. I heard something along those lines but I never read the post myself so I can't confirm.

Personally I'm not inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt since he never even attempted to talk to us and only talked about us with other people. It was especially frustrating because virtually all the posts about his comics were people gushing about how great they were and encouraging others to buy them.

Thanks for the link.

Though I'm calling bullshit. Posters had been using photobucket on the old scans_daily for almost a decade with no incident whatsoever, yet two days after PD complains to Marvel (without even bothering to spend 30 seconds to send a message to the mods first, and claiming that Marvel didn't know about the community despite the fact that several big shot writers had been posting there) it just so happens coincidentally purely by chance for totally unrelated reasons that LJ shuts the community down?

Yeah, right.

Thank you for your thoughts Jane Grey. We have been considering this for some time now for the same reasons you specified, and are in the process of discussing this over in the mod comm. Cheers!

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be pushy, but have you taken a decision?

I've noticed that there have been a few posts that were basically interviews and such with a promo pic for legality, so I thought you had decided in the affirmative. But I would like to make sure of that before I post something similar, I don't want to break the rules.

I've only ever heard this cover described, but I've NEVER been able to find it:

A Silver Age Superman cover. Meteor headed for Metropolis. Superman throwing a statue of himself at it, saying something like, "All hope is up to you! Fly, Superman Statue, fly!"

If anyone can track that down and post it, I'd love you forever.

I can't find any copies of Batman: Hush Returns, a comic that I've heard nothing but bad things about. I want to see this series for myself and see just how bad it is. I would love to see someone do an entry on it.

I know the series had a 35th anniversary a few years ago. I like to see how the artist's style has changed over the years.

Well Vinland Saga would be nice if anybody here is a fan of that series. Probably the beginning or Thorkell's introduction.

Especially since it's publishing in english has gotten delays thanks to low sales and it's kind of one of the best comics being published today, manga and all.

Ooo, that's a good series, though I don't think there are any digital copies of that out there. It be hard to scan that without breaking the hardcover spine.

I liked that one Astro City story that deconstructed Silver Age Lois/Superman relationship. "Shining Armor" I think it was called.

I don't exactly need scans of it/them, but I've been thinking about dipping into a series called Lantern City and Bloodshot recently, and I'm just wondering if anyone's got a feel for them. Also, is Renew Your Vows for ASM worth picking up or should I just stick with getting previews here?

Okay, so these are vague and random and elude my searching capabilities. I've been looking for the first comic I saw as a kid, and I'm running on sheer childhood memory. It's one of three. Here are the suspects:

The first: A comic where Thor throws a dough monster into the bottom of a lake. Captain America was there, leading me to believe it may have been Avengers.

Segundo: This is worse. I remember what I can now ID as Thom Kallor in the star suit using his powers to make someone fall through the floor. They were on a space ship. I have to assume it was Legion stuff, in the Bronze age judging by my perception of the art (I wasn't born in the Bronze age but it looks late 70's to late 80's-- which, admittedly seem the same to me).

Also: Peter Parker and MJ hanging out in their apartment in the 90's. It had to be early 90's because Peter had a mullet. And MJ was all 90's-sexy. You know, big hair, Cindy Crawford looking. And she's just hanging around the apartment in various states of half-dressed, as is Peter. This was my first Spider-Man comic. Before that I only knew Spider-Man from the cartoon.

I'm inclined to think the first comic I picked up, off a dusty spin rack in the corner of an old book store, is one of these. I want to own them. They were, I think, tremendously pivotal for me. (A grown man in a star costume pointing at someone, and the fall through the floor! Seeing this will do profound things to a small child.)

How about the Spider-Hulk issues?

I know this is way past july, but I've been struggling to find a web-comic, and my google-kung-fu just isn't good enough.

It was a comic that compared two young americans trying to go to college. Essentially one american was born in a well-to-do family, and the other was born in an impoverished family. It was then a comparison between those two individuals and the additional challenges the latter had to overcome vs. the former.

Hopefully, someone is subscribed to this thread and can help provide a link... I wish I had kept it before.
