"Chris and I looked at the entirety of X-Men in the '90s, and really tried to distill all of it down into one big, gigantic story. So, naturally, it's influenced by the cartoon and the comics -- which are no doubt the two biggest voices of that era -- but there's also the toys, video games, the trading cards, and the list goes on and on. It's all in there!" - Chad Bowers

No surprise there. He drew that Deadpool flashback issue in 90s style and it was amazing.

Where the series 'E is for Extinction' claims to be a parody of Morrison's run, I actually think it's an excellent story.

I was very much a fan of X-Men TAS, and this book is supposed to be a continuation of that, but it just seems to parody of it. I'm disappointed.

Except I'd X-Men TAS does actually come across as a parody of the concept quite a lot, since it takes stories and then has to do extraordinary things with them to make the palatable for TV like, for example, the entire Phalanx Covenant becoming "Warlock arrives on Earth looking for his lost girlfriend" and Storm's overblown dialogue throughout...

Yes, Storm's dialogue. Very dramatic and love it. When I started reading comics in 2005 the comics Storm just came off so bland in comparison.

The stories are imitated, but are they parodied? In the definition that the characters and arcs are made fun of? I don't think so. Yes, they were altered to fit in one episode or few.

The comic above feels like the writer is taking it to absurd extremes to make fun of TAS and the result isn't entertaining to me. It's not very true to TAS either. I don't get what reinventing Cassandra Nova like this adds to this series. This could've been Mojo toying with the X-Men.

This is not a continuation of the cartoon though. It's based on both the cartoon and the 90s comics and most of what's made fun of (very warmly, in my opinion) is actually the bizarre aspects of the comics back then.
