Back in 1973, Batgirl, Robin and an incredibly bored Batman took part in a PSA advertising the Federal Equal Pay Law. Aside from the terribad acting from Adam West, the fact that TV Batman apparently was PAYING Batgirl and Robin to fight crime is actually pretty hilarious too…

Wow. You weren't kidding about Adam West. Is he ridiculously tired? On downers? Being blackmailed or paid twice whatever Yvonne Craig's earning to be in this sketch?

My guess is that, like many a typecast actor, he'd reached the "hate having to play this goddamn role AGAIN but it's this or starve" phase of his career. The one that comes before the "ah well, if I'm typecast in this role at least I can have fun mocking it" phase.

Agreed (though I'm reminded of what Peter Cushing once told Christopher Lee; At least being typecast greatly improves your chances of BEING cast.

Actually, according to the comments on the video, that's not actually Adam West -- it's Dick Gautier. Checking his Wikipedia page, it looks to be true -- this was filmed after the end of the series, and West was trying to distance himself from the role of Batman at the time.

Ah. Well, in that case, all due credit for the vocal impersonation; shame about the lack of energy.

Thank you for posting this, Ms Craig was, on the one occasion I was at a UK con she was attending, a delightful person who put up with my fanfboy babbling with great grace and patience, and signed by BTAS Batgirl figure (The only Batgirl figure I had, 1970's Mego not being my thing).

Her creation of the role of Batgirl as the graceful, high-kicking (and boy could that lady kick) and whip-smart Batgirl helped plant the character in the public conscience and I know inspired many creators, Gail Simone's comments on tumblr make that very clear.

If you could please add the "ns: multimedia" tag, and we also have a "theme: in memoriam" tag which might be a nice one use too.

I'll have a word with my fellow Mods about a proper tribute to Ms Craig, so thank you for this reminder.

I think there was an extended version of this ad, about a minute long, but the only copies anyone posted on YouTube are bad enough quality to make a small child cry.

Still, I would've snapped necks to see these '70s PSAs be included as extras on the '66 show boxsets.

Holy Forced Lines, Burt Ward!

But Yvonne Craig still had it. Sell that info, Batgirl!

I'm mostly just amazed TV Batman & Robin always had the suspense of "ropes" on their side for plots. God forbid a pocket knife manufacturer try and buy ad time. They'd be in a real pickle.
"Cut the ropes, Batman!"
"Can't, chum, I seem to have left my handy, Craftsman all-purpose camping knife with over 12 different uses in the Batmobile."
"...Well don't you have, like, a mini-butane torch in that utility belt or something? Come on!"
"Robin I hate to break this to you at this point in our career, but this belt is largely cosmetic. It's primary purpose has only ever been serving as a girdle."

Batgirl and Robin being paid? Maybe Bruce set up a Batman Incorporated after the end of the original show. Robin's eye rolling makes this look like Batgirl usually goes on rants about male-female equality.
