"Earth in the future has solved various major problems we face. One of them is the Environment. Between now and then, humanity got serious, and decided having a sustainable planet to live on was probably a good thing. As such, rather than the present where we'll probably shrug and say we care about the environment while carrying on eating crisps (or chips) out of plastic bags for the convenience, in this future they'll be utterly horrified at the waste in the same way we're horrified at various barbaric acts from our past. This is a fundamental thing that people believe, and those who don't are pretty much viewed in the same way we view Nazis." -- Kieron Gillen

So they pay a visit to the workplace of one Mercy Chartwell, one of Mercury's many belt workers.

Mercy turns out to be armed and dangerous, so it all ends in a rather violent confrontation:

Someone really needs to make a sticker of Hawkeye in this pose/outfit that we can stick over the covers of this comic on the stands.

I know right? It's actually like a perfect example of a boobs and butt pose. If I were teaching a class on it, I would show that picture. It's so uncomfortably, obviously horrible.

I was just about to say, thank god she turned around so we could get a look at her chest. Otherwise I'd never have even looked at the...OK, fine, I didn't look at the rest, I skipped the whole thing to write this comment. I don't see the point of even reading these free scans from the book if they're going to insult the readership so badly with that cover.

Yep. Put a cover like that on a book and you're basically inviting it to not be taken seriously

Apparently, that's one problem the future hasn't solved...

It's just baffling. There's a perfectly good core idea(a new age means new problems) and the writer is justly acclaimed. But the art is terrible, and not just because of the helpfully-outlined red ass on every other page. The colouring makes things outright blend into each other, grimaces for no reason abound, and the detailed interiors are so generic they look like backdrops instead of spaces.

I almost feel like they started her out with just the white parts of her costume then someone (maybe Gillen because he is actually not awful) was like 'actually uh maybe clothes?'

And so they coloured her orange and now she has a metal crotch bump thing.

I really think the artists who draw women's armor like this should be forced to compete in SCA tournaments with divided pectoral plates molded to cup their own musculature. After a couple of sternum-cracker hits with a rattan sword, maybe they'd start drawing convex breastplates instead of concave.

Or hell, make it anatomically-molded codpieces to really drive the point home.

It's Avatar's generic house style and coloring. It all blends together and is just so uninspired and boring looking. That's my problem with it.

This is why they need to take more of the approach that they've done with "Providence" and just let the writer dictate 90-99% of what's in the comic and on the covers (or so the solicitation copy says they've been doing).

"Is Mercy alive?"
"Unless she's learned to live with her spine wrapped around my fist, probably not."
"Well, if I can live through what my spine did on the cover, it's possible."
