Superman, Lois, and their son all arrive on the planet during the Darkseid invasion, when the Justice League first formed. This Superman almost joined in the fray but Cyborg ended the conflict before that was necessary. But this seasoned hero looked upon the heroes and the world in general and found them "suspicious, doubting, edgy, without faith."

We hear from Superman that the Convergence-world Supergirl, Flash, and Parallax did indeed change the outcome of the original Crisis. The multiverse 'reset' itself. Basically we are back to infinite Earths.

And then Barry, Kara, and Hal (at least those versions) decide that they will simply leave to 'find their destinies'.

Lois is the rock here, reminding Clark that they are resilient, their love is immutable, and their son Jon is a treasure. She reminds Clark of all the things they have going for them.

Flash forward approximately 7 years. The couple, now living as the White family, is living on a farm in middle America. (They named themselves after Perry! Meanwhile, the new 52 Perry is bashing Superman on national TV.)

He might be a bit precocious and a touch flippant. But he seems like a good kid, one who maybe knows more about his parents origins than he is letting on.

As for Clark, he has continued to do super-deeds undercover. Lois has a whole scrapbook of press clippings of natural disasters averted miraculously, a nice way to let us readers know that this Clark has been busy.

We learn that Clark's powers fluctuate on this world for some reason.

Lois' next book is on Intergang, one of the big bads over on her original world.

Meanwhile, Clark seems to have saved the Henshaw ship. Maybe this time the Henshaws and crew won't die or become villains.

Henshaw's wife, friend, and brother-in-law (the original crew on the post-Crisis Earth) aren't present. Only Henshaw himself. Things are different already.

And then, one more hook, in a distant galaxy.

So "our" Superman, the pre-Nu 52 one, has been hiding for the past few years, opting to do good in secret, while the inferior Nu 52 versions screw things up. Cue me asking "Where was he during...." for all of the big events of the past 5-7 years in that universe, like Forever Evil.

Oh, but even though he's trying to keep a low profile, he still wears the "S" shield and looks just like a bearded Superman.

(Between LumberBruce and BeardedSuperman, is this a trend? Will everyone get beards?)

Lois writing as Author X. Okay, moving right along...

I'm just not buying it. What kind of Superman looks at a world, sees them "suspicious, doubting, edgy, without faith" and says "eh, screw it, I wanted to be a farmer anyway."

Beards for everyone! DC has gone Lumber-sexual!

This is the same Superman who was sent on a walkabout across America after General Lane and Lex Luthor killed off all the Kandorians and Chris got banished into the Phantom Zone. Supes going "Eh, let that other Clark Kent handle the crime fighting." isn't that far out there.

Well he does apparently goes around trying to stop supervillian origins so that's...something?

'Cue me asking "Where was he during...." for all of the big events of the past 5-7 years in that universe, like Forever Evil.'

I'm going with him being either stuck dealing with other nonsense, or working behind the scenes to minimize civilian casualties or such. It's a retcon, sure, but it works for me.

'Oh, but even though he's trying to keep a low profile, he still wears the "S" shield and looks just like a bearded Superman.'

Let's be fair, by comic book disguise logic, that's enough to make most people think it's a different hero ripping off Superman, or another Kryptonian.

Hm, if he was stopping *Cyborg Superman* from happening, or other high-casualty villains, then yea, I can see a pretty good justification for 'where he was.'

also as lordultimus said, "We learn that Clark's powers fluctuate on this world for some reason."
I'd imagine that would have something to do in holding him back from time to time.

Actually, I was wondering if that had something to do with how the local Supermans powers are acting up too. It's just that this Clark is a bit better off because he's more powerful to start with, and he hasn't been running around blowing himself up for laughs.

Also, amusing thought I had last night while rereading this issue. Back in Infinite Crisis, when Earth-2 Superman was going on about how dark and gritty post-crisis Earth was, he decided that clearly the solution was to erase the universe and bring his back (God, DC loves making classic heroes terrifying...). Here, Post-crisis Superman comments that this world is a lot darker and untrusting then his own... so he decides to help out on the sidelines and give the locals a chance to make things better.

I'm not wowed by this concept, but, it's believably a him-thing to do :)

Yea, if there's something like that, it'd make sense.

One who has more faith in this JL than they themselves have. I think Clark sees enough of himself in this world's Superman to consider him able to become this world's champion, but not experienced enough to do so.

If worst comes to pass, he can go and help any time. One of the most recurring elements of Superman is him randomly going to places far away because someone needs help with something mundane. he WILL help if it is needed. if worst comes to pass, he will reveal himself to the JL.

Hold on, so they're on the nu52 Earth? That's disappointing. The solicits gave me the impression this was a totally different world they were making a life in.

I remember SFDebris review of the Wonder Woman pilot at one point commenting how, the only way he could see the show could be saved was if it was revealed the Diana we had been following was an impostor and the REAL wonder woman was doing good in secret. I guess DC decided to do that for real...

Maybe he felt it wasn't fair to not let the Nu52 Superman have his shot? And if his power fluctuates on Nu52 Earth, it might not be a good idea to tackle Ultraman, for instance. Especially what Ultraman might do to Lois and their kid.

I dunno. Haven't picked this up yet, but it's got to be better than the Superman books right now.

I guess he now knows what the Earth-Two Superman felt during Infinite Crisis.

I was under the impression that Convergence brought back the old universe and the characters went back home or wherever they chose... so reading this and learning that it indeed wasn't brought back was so damn disappointing.

There are two different explanations for post convergence what we got in convergence which was the old multiverse was saved and evolved nu52 style. And what the writers/editors/ folks in charge have said which is more the all the old stuff now exist in its own world thing maybe even multiple multiverses and such.

Personally I want to like this but it just falls kind of flat to me since I find the was on the nu52 earth all this time in secret thing uninspiring and kind of boring. I'm also still really worried that they'll eventually have this John be the one who turns into the disaster that was the Jon Kent superboy.

At least it means that all the characters from Convergence are still out there on different worlds? I would kill for a series about Steph and Cass reality hopping actually...

Somehow someway. I'd just love that no matter what, you can't fight destiny and Henshaw will become the Cyborg Superman some other way.

Just have him end up in Zor El's body* and problem is solved.

*Assuming DC doesn't pretend their nu52 cyborg superman doesn't exist anymore.

This world is Nu52? You know what, Clark? Stay on the farm. This world doesn't want heroes unless it's to dump on 'em.
