It had been a very long time since I'd read DKSA, so when Carrie was recalling Bruce's last fight, I thought she was talking about the mutant leader and not Lex Luthor. So what I thought was that she was implying that DKSA was some fever dream Bruce told her on his death bed and hadn't really happened.
I see I was wrong now, but for a few days I was walking around thinking they retconned DKSA as "it was all a dream!" which, to be honest, I was totally fine with.
"We are the light in the dark. The shield from death. The tired and pretentious internal monologue. That looks more meaningful...if you split up the sentences."
Also, yes, like others I take issue with WW stating above that the Amazons (or superheroes in general) needed Superman to teach them to help others and make sacrifices even while people distrusted them.
This comes dangerously close to the right-wing Christian idea that "all human beings are inherently tainted and need the shining blood of Christ to purify them" BS, but with a slightly more misogynistic focus. Remembering, of course, that in this universe Diana has fond memories of Clark raping her.
Okay, what? Clark raped her? Holy shit, I'm glad I don't remember the dark knight series that well.
Also, if you Google "superman wonder woman rape" you will hate yourself. But you'll also come across this story of Mark Millar pitching an idea to DC along the lines of The Death Of Superman for Diana. It was dubbed "The Rape Of Wonder Woman". Shit you not.
Mm. As I remember it, while trying to give him a pep talk in "TDK Strikes Again", she asks him "where is the superman who threw me to the ground and took me for his own?". This is what motivates him to have sex with her again, causing several tremors and apparently immediately fertilising her with the baby in the pages above. As with everything Miller's written, it's super super gross.
Jesus, Clark did not rape her. If you want to interpret those words as such that's your own choice. Was it objectifying? Sure. But you're absolutely reaching the worst possible interpretation of those words.
Marvel and DC both wander into "The public resents superheroes for saving them" territory now and then. It rarely makes any sense. It's like "Police officers keep us safe. Until they shoot us dead for their own amusement."
This is bad when, unlike some cases with the police, the specific heroes have been very public and active for a long time without misusing their power.
People fear cops who *do* beat and kill civilians. They don't fear ones that they know have a long and positive record.
I don't care how shit hot a warrior you are, you don't knowingly carry your baby into battle strapped on your back. Sheesh. (and it was stupid when Nomad did it back in the day too.)
It IS Superman's baby. But I felt like he should've suffered from shown baby syndrome there. It's like they came up with some comical way amazons toughen up their young.
I mean, seriously people, we have never once seen this version of Diana being compassionate, diplomatic, joyful, etc. - the way we know and love Wonder Woman. Under Miller (and now Azzarello), she has the following personality traits: "The World of Men is awful and I hate it and want to fight everything", and: "Superman is weak and I hate his guts, but maybe if I tell him so ten thousand times he'll impregnate me again".
Which would not bother me if the makers of the multi-million-dollar movie franchise that's introducing her to the big screen (and hundreds of audience members) for the first time were not dipping into Miller's work for inspiration a lot. You will notice that in what we've seen of BvS thus far, Diana has not said a word, mostly being displayed for her sex appeal and for fighting. If that's a reflection of her overall appearance in the movie - and let's face it, Zach Snyder is not very good with women - then things do not bode well.

A cop under investigation looks the same as one who's won a medal of valor. Unless you know a cop personally, you don't know them at all.
