IGN has previews for Deadpool: Suicide Kings #4.

And someone slipped some serious trippy stuff in my morning cereal, because that image can't be right.

Hmm....Barbieri's the only art credit...it's not a bad job aping Young.

Now I kind of want the issue....

You know, this movie's over 12 years old now.

Something about making the "Man Without Fear" the Cowardly Lion is just awesome...

M to the freaking otto!

But why does Tin Punisher have a moustache? ::bemused::

Because Tinman has one in the image being referenced. (http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/6012/wwoo1cover.jpg)

The Tin Woodman should NOT have a mustache. That just looks weird.
On the plus side, it's illustrated by Eric Shanower, who's made a career out of drawin' Oz all purty-like. I take it that's not his work on the cover? He generally follows the John R. Neil illustration style pretty closely.

Shanower's not drawing it. He did the adapted script. Skottie Young is drawing it. Covers and internal art.

Ah. That's a shame; I like Shanower's artwork. If nothing else, he's one of the few artists who's grasped the fact that Dorothy is supposed to be BLONDE. True, she's drawn a bit differently in the first book, and is depicted as brunette, but in all the other books? Blonde. A pet peeve of mine.

Oh that makes sense. My head spent the last few weeks arguing whether that was the punisher or dum dum dugan because of the moustache

On the one hand, that is ADORABLE and I want the plushie doll set.

On the other hand, I am so deeply, deeply disturbed.

Also a little indignant. Sure, Wade's goofy and hilarious, but gawd, is it too much to ask to give the man some dignity? This Pool-O-Vision had better have a very good explanation behind it, because it's pushing the envelope of "tolerable gag" and sliding into the mailbox of Dead Jokes.

Maybe I'm uber-sensitive because I just read that one X-force comic where Siryn busts him out of the insane asylum, but that was goofy/deadly serious Wade done to a tee. This shit just ain't up to scratch. To me, it just seems that Wade's characterization and depth is being sacrificed for laffs.

Also, Deadpool's head in the last panel. Is the exact shape, indentation, and shininess of Pikachu's.

You will never unsee it.

Actually Wade seems to be dreaming here, probably why it's actually funny for once. Suicide Kings seems to have handled the Pool-O-Vision best out of everything that's had it, it's usually either after massive blood loss or some other trauma. It's also subdued and fits the situation better, rather then some jarring pathetic attempt at a sight gag.

It's still annoying, just the least annoying.

Check the whole Preview, it's definitely a dream sequence.
Also, personally I don't read a lot of Deadpool, but it always seemed to me that his popularity was because he was such a clown, instead of a super serious grimdark Assassin. That doesn't mean he's not badass or whatever, just that he can get away with far more than any other character, like breaking the Fourth Wall.

Your words, they have truth.

But I tend to like grayscales. I don't want DP to be a super-srs grimdark Assassin, but neither do I want him to be a 2-D clown character. Somewhere in the middle, maybe?

The Deadpool that really got me hooked on the character is... well, kinda like Spiderman, except that he almost never angsts about Great Responsibility and has nowhere near the amount of moral dilemmas :P

That's the most awesomely childhood-movie-geek thing I've ever seen that doesn't involve Ollie Queen singing his own theme music.

And the art's adorable. Look at Scarecrow Spidey's adorable little head! :D

You should read the series it's aping. Eric Shanower and Skottie Young's adaptation of Wizard of Oz (Wonderful Wizard has one issue left, then they'll be doing Magnificent Land of Oz, at least).

Specifically, this page is based on the cover of issue 1.

They ARE gonna collect it in trade, right? I love Oz, and I love Shanower, and SHANOWER loves Oz, so I really want to read it, but I'd rather have a nice shelfy collected edition.

"And Black Canary said a buzzsaw arrow was self-indulgent.."

Was there anything about JLU that wasn't awesome?
