sarahnewlin: (Sarah Newlin surprise)
[personal profile] sarahnewlin posting in [community profile] scans_daily
There's a new poster for X-Men Apocalypse and some rather...interesting buzz from early screenings.

Early buzz for the film has come out is not good. Let's just say that it makes The Last Stand look like X2.

- Apocalypse is dumb but Oscar Isaac tries his hardest despite playing a pruned Ivan Ooze smurf
- Nightcrawler and Quicksilver are highlights but glorified cameos
- Angel, Psylocke, and Jubilee are nonentities
- Fassbender is okay
- the Horsemen have no real reason for aligning with Apocalypse but still do anyway
- JLaw is bored as ever and is basically playing Katniss with blue makeup
- Jubilee has two lines, doesn't use her powers either
- The woc (Storm, Psylocke, Jubilee) have 10 lines combined
- Sophie Turner is a bit muted as Jean Grey
- It doesn't feel like the eighties, instead its more like people cosplaying from the eighties....poorly

Deadpool aside, Marvel movies outside of the MCU seem to be doing rather poorly.

Damn... bad call on her end. Wade's ex in that movie was fantastic.

Apparently she had demands of X-men Apocalypse that she'd get a fight scene, and such so she wouldn't just be "the girl," or "the love interest."

I am really torn should I go see this movie. I mean I've been looking forward to it a lot as I loved the first two of the new era X-Men and I did love BvS, which also did get a lot of negative reviews. Yet the tone of those negative reviews seems very different than with those for BvS as there doesn't seem to be a similar highest of highs, lowest of lows feeling in these.

From what I read, it seemed to movie hit a big problem in that it wanted to introduce the three most important of the future, but at the same time it wanted to keep the previous X-Men played by big stars as central to the story as possible. So, and this is again from what I read, it seems they really sacrificed telling the stories of Scott, Jean and Ororo becoming the legends they were meant to be in order to keep Mystique and Magneto on the forefront.

Mystique Is barely blue because JLaw needs her face time ( Rebecca Romijn was SOOO much better)...and It's the same for the guy who plays Beast.

I heard that JLaw doesn't like putting on the makeup so they tried to compromise.

Let the X-men stay with Fox, just give back the rights of the Fantastic Four Fox and you can keep making more X-men movies.

Why should it look like the eighties when it wasn't the eighties? It's from the nineties when Marvel went to shit.

Except the film is specifically set in the 80's? So, you know, just like First Class and DOFP managed to fit their periods fairly well, so should this.

Fox, just sell the rights back to Marvel already, along with FF and Ghost rider.

Fox isn't going to sell off the X-Men anytime soon. It's probably their healthiest tentpole franchise. If you take away the X-Men, they have:

Maze Runner, Die Hard, Planet of the Apes, Independence Day, Power Rangers, Percy Jackson, Taken, Fantastic Four, The Omen, Alien, Predator, Rio, and Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Not terribly enviable.

I heard a rumor that they were going to do a shared deal like they did with Sony

No, they shouldn't. Disney would never allow something like Deadpool, and frankly, the MCU has enough properties that they can be getting on with launching.

Personally,I would love to see ALL the Marvel characters together, and we've seen watered down pg13 versions of Deadpool before.

Aren't the Horsemen always brainwashed into serving Apocalypse? Well, not Sabretooth but the rest of them.

I still can't stop laughing at that first trailer in which Erik has Chas floating around like a lost Dalek and Mystique screaming "CHARLES NOOO". I think it's no coincidence they didn't use that shot in other trailers.

Not to mention the final twist that "He's BALD now!!!".

After disliking Deadpool and CW while liking BvS, I've pretty much adopted a "I'll watch it and make on my up then, everyone else can get fucked until then" mentality. Do not trust ANYONE about these movies anymore, not one iota.

I'm shocked, shocked to hear that Bryan Singer can't deal effectively with women of color and/or male characters who aren't Wolverine or Professor X.

Do all superhero movies have to be depressing? Apparantly so.
