Here's how bad this event is: this is my favorite character of all time getting killed off. Instead of getting upset or outraged, my reaction is simply, "Whatever."

Remember when Hawkeye thought killing was wrong to such a degree he divorced Mockingbird and made her quit the Avengers? Good times.

So not a single one of those dozens of heroes and SHIELD craft saw the fucking shooter or arrow in flight in time to stop it? Spiderman, Vision, that Karnak dude? Fuckin' really?

It's already gone, the link to the article.

Anyhow, Marvel... what the fuck is this? Seriously, what the fuck is this? Do you have something against quality in your events? Just... just no. No.

Since we don't seem to actually see who shot the arrow, I'll hold out hope that it's a frame job.

Hm, anti-Gamma arrow or something...? Banner normally reflexively changes...

[personal profile] donnblake 2016-07-13 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
One, that arrow is clearly the Impossible Man in disguise. You heard it here first.

Second- is it just me, or does gathering all the heroes in one place and then trying to kill Banner seem like a great way to make sure that that prophecy *does* come true.

[personal profile] matrix_dragon 2016-07-13 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
God dammit Marvel, can you please A) stop giving away spoilers to the media before the damn comic comes out, and B) STOP HAVING HEROES KILLED BY OTHER HEROES! They're the good guys, dammit! This is super villain behaviour!

It's shit like this that makes me glad I'm not buying anything from either DC or Marvel these days. I'll stick with Image.

Is there ever going to be a scene in this story where Ulysses' predictions are actually a problem? Because so far, it's just him giving the heroes some perfectly useful piece of info, and then they go and do something stupid and people die. The moral isn't that they shouldn't be acting based on prophecies; it's that they shouldn't be acting at all, because they're incompetent.

I sincerely and genuinely believe the requirement to kill a major character every quarter, whether it came from bean-counters, editorial, some exec or whoever, was one of the worst things to ever happen to Marvel.

Huh that happened I give it a year before everyone returns.

It's Final Crisis all over again. "The stakes are so high that they looped back to there being no stakes at all, because you all know from experience that this BS never lasts and reality will be rebooted and everyone will be brought back sooner or later!"

[personal profile] super_fly 2016-07-13 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
Hold on: purple shaft, green head... that arrow is a SKRULL!

Secret Invasion II confirmed guys.

So Bruce is off at the pearly gates and getting the old super-hero welcome from St Peter. The superhero welcome is different from the normal welcome, because superheroes get their hand stamped so they get back into the mortal realm again if they want.

Marvel and DC both need to stop hanging their events on somebody dying. We never believe it, and it never sticks.

So, will Hawkeye insist that he go to prison and serve the full term, like he did for Mach I-don't-even-know-how-many-any-more (though Abe got free before that thanks to secret bureaucratic organization number x to nth power)?

How many years would twenty comic time years be in real years anyway? And would Franklin be any taller by that time? Inquiring minds want to know.

"“This is uncharted territory for us,” Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso told the Daily News."

No it's not. You've killed characters off plenty of times.

""Fans may be outraged, and there are probably ‘Hawkeye’ writers who I'm very good friends with who will also be offended," said Brian Michael Bendis, the writer of the "Civil War II" event series. "But the point is that everything that happens in this issue is in character when you discover the hows and whys and wheres."

Only according to your retcons and ability to ignore everything else in the Marvel Universe.'

"Right now I can tell you this is the real deal," says Bendis. "I can't speak for the future, I honestly can't, who knows what will happen? But I already have plans for the body (in upcoming issues.)"

He'll be back around the time there is a movie that features him.

There is one thing that could be worse than having Clint take the killshot: WHAT IF IT'S KATE?

[personal profile] captainbellman 2016-07-13 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Based on the differences - both the discontinuity with Greg Pak's Hulk book and the panel (not shown here) where they apprehend classic-look MODOK (i.e., minus the baldness and spider-legs which he retains in "Unbelievable Gwenpool"), it seems more and more like Ulysses' powers have merely started a divergent timeline, which will be cleaned up by the end.

Of course, it may be that they're just making mistakes and I'm crediting them with too much cleverness. Who can say.

Miss Hoover: He was fine. Go home, Ralph.

Y'know, I don't even know if I'm all the way up to feeling apathetic about this.
That's how little this book is doing.

Just got back from my weekly bike trip to the comic shop.

This is one time you simply can't have an informed opinion without reading more from the comic than is shown here. (And I say this as someone who's rushed to judgment based on excerpts when I shouldn't have, myself.)

I'm not promising you'll like the end result, but there's more to this surprise death scene-- with more complicated legal and moral implications-- than "Clint got an itchy trigger finger."

Oh hi Storm I see you. Where's Betsy? :(

I never liked Hawkeye as a character. I don't know why. Always preferred Kate. Wonder how she's going to take finding out Clint murdered Bruce.
