Ultimate Vision is still a heavy-thinking robot that can phase through things.

The difference is...

yes, this Vision's a herald of Galactus. Clever.

(Ultimate Silver Surfer makes sort of an appearance, later, as a horde of envoy-drones for Galactus, forming cults to trigger mass suicides on Earth in a bid to make Galactus's job less resource-consuming.

We only see one of them talk, I think, as a cult leader calling himself Paul Maitreya. Later on in Ultimate Fantastic Four, we get Norrin Radd the Silver Searcher, affiliated with Ultimate Psycho-Man...

And then we get a Silver Surfer apparently working for the Watchers being all " No, Phoenix!Jean Grey, stop causing bad stuff for the universe " ... yeah.)

so then Vision starts dropping backstory on scientist Sam Wilson (who, yes, likes to put on a winged harness occasionally), showing us what she.. used to look like:

very different.

anyhow, the nice-looking people, because they've taken too long, get the GALACTUS IS COMING message... a biiiiiit too late.

so the only thing they can do? send out another warning. they reconstruct the beacon into the Vision of today:

" Nothing may see Gah-Lak-Tus and survive. "

still, the ability to communicate in any way possible? nice usage of the name Vision.

Vision is sent out to worlds in Galactus's trajectory, serving both to warn the people of the coming threat... and to help them engineer defenses that may perhaps destroy the Galactus threat once and for all.

moral of the story? dyson spheres and memes are not going to stop a devourer of worlds.

also, we'll ignore the fact that you used superhumans to refer to an alien race, Vision.

so then Vision, not having an optimistic lookout on our chances for surviving Galactus, records everything- every book, every conversation, every thought- about our planet, remarking on our ingenuity on the process..

...but frankly still thinking we're all fucked. preparing to leave the system, she has one seeming last conversation with Sam:

one " Reed Richards shooting the Big Bang at Galactus " and " humanity groupthinking FUCK YOU GALACTUS " later, though... extinction's out of here.

and so's Vision:

she goes to space, only to hear... Galactus?

But no, it turns out to only be Advanced Idea Mechanics, broadcasting from a satellite the one thing they knew would attract the Vision's attention.... because, as facility head George Tarleton explains, they need her help.

He takes the Vision on a tour of the place, giving us a look into the daily works of an AIM facility:

megavirii, telenet, and plastic girls. fuck yeah, AIM.

Tarleton then reveals the source of the transmission, and what he wants to do with it:

...and explains what he wants from her:

but this is AIM, so as soon as he gets what he wants, he uses the Galactus probe's weaponry to ZZRAACK Vision, and then proceeds to start splicing bits of Galactus into his own already-cyborg body.

meanwhile, we learn that even the janitors of AIM are a little weird:

and that evil broadcasts are hard to pull off when a piece of a world devourer's leeching the power:

the newly active galactus module brings its full complement of bioweapons to bear on the AIM crew, slaying some and mutating others into murderous creatures.

meanwhile, vision, down but not out, uses her communicative skills to get the plastic girl to come free her.

and doctor tarleton and his galactus-circuitry?

yeah, Galactus is kicking around in Tarleton's brain:

meanwhile, plastic girl and the vision make it to a terminal from which they might to be able to prevent the satellite's fall, and any of Galactus ending up back on Earth...

...but then Tarleton shows up, a little more high on Galactus:

and she finally gets control of the satellite, ejecting Tarleton out the airlock and riding it into the atmosphere, flying free before crashing.. only to discover that someone else had the idea:

a piece of Galactus, ladies and gentlemen.

which vision then confronts:

some Nick Fury-sent fighters show up, having heard the distress call from the AIM satellite, but get fragged inside of a minute. Tarleton then comes back, but now she's got a plan for him:

The Galactus drone meanwhile, has cut and run to Edwards Air Force Base, which it promptly neutralizes. A seemingly-sane Tarleton and Vision head there to stop it, but..

(.. it's just one drone. regardless of its death-dealing capabilities, it can't end the world.. but it could probably cause a few problems doing what it's doing, so it's still an annoyance.)

luckily, the government's sent some dude to help save the day:

... well, he was the closest guy. it's mentioned that Fury's trying to get the Ultimates out here as quick as possible, so yeah.

anyhow, sam wilson makes his entrance:

and then his exit, along with tarleton and the vision, as they try to think up a plan.

aheh.

so the two work out their plan to bust the forcefield (so that vision can get in and take on the hyperadvanced piece of world-devouring), while vision has a talk with the plastic girl about feelings and emotions and yeah.

finally, they carry out their plan:

... my god. I will never doubt the power of words again.

the battle, however, soon appears to tip into galactus's favor, so tarleton sends in the little plastic girl to self destruct, because she is made of plastiques.

somehow, the vision doesn't take to the callous destruction of budding sentient life lightly:

and so the threat of galactus is again averted, though now the techboys have some remains to study. oh lovely.

the damage vision's incurred in this adventure, however, mean that she'll be unable to go to space for about a month atleast.

bad news for atleast one civilization, good news for sam wilson...

dima was plastic-girl, btw. seriously, track down the full version of this however you can: it's a fun read, and there's stuff I didn't get to show you because of the harsh but fair page limits.

bonus: Hal Jordan sells power rings!

track down the context for this yourself, as well. this is also a fun read.

(tag clarifications: millar and romita jr. are responsible for everything up to " and so's vision ", carey and peterson get everything after. and I forget who did the HAL SELLING POWER RINGS)
