"Once we could talk about a much wider array of subjects before the superheroes were tied to a very specific mindset. And as I say, in other cultures and in India specifically, we're getting to use superheroes in a culture that's quite forward-looking. If you see the video that Sharad [showed at Comic-Con], it's talking to all the young girls, saying "what super power would you like?" And all the powers are these really benign, helping-people powers. "I want to touch trees and it comes back to life, I want to touch a mud hut and it turns into a house, I want to take away people's sickness." And you contrast that with our image of a female superhero who's Wonder Woman with a sword and a shield and a grunting grimace on her face, she's a warrior from some ridiculous mythological past.

"So I liked the idea as well of turning people this slightly more feminine approach and trying to get superheroes back to what they do best, which is helping people, and not just protecting their own asses from the latest monstrous villain."

Morrison describes an intriguing paradigm, but what seems to be shown here is a guy with a sword and a shield from a mythological past fighting the latest monstrous villain?

I mean- binding a divine figure to a human host to teach them humility and the value of humanity is a neat idea, if not exactly new.

To the letter! Perhaps he plan on slowly deconstructing the concept?

And it looks like he's going with the "The intended perfect host will not be chosen and the apparent loser will be the one to take on the mantle" (See the subgenre including everything from "The Greatest American Hero" to "Major Bummer")

That is, assuming that it's Chandra who ends up as the host and not Anita.

The guy from "Greatest American Hero" WAS the intended perfect host and chosen one... he just lost the instructions to the suit within hours of getting it.

Really reminds me more of Steve Engleharts Star-Lord. Same premise but more out of his mind.

Does this guy seem like a Rick and Morty character to anyone who isn't me?

The only reason Diana is depicted this way is because for years modern writers neglected her core personality of diplomat and peace-bringer in favor of the warrior. Now DC finally seems to be realizing that they should go back to what Marston envisioned.

Except Rucka actively pushed the non-violent, diplomatic aspect of her. So did Simone, to some extent. One of the major writers who actively pushed her as 'grunting sword and shield-bearer' is Morrison himself, who never really had much to say about the character save for recently with Earth One.
