Alas, history, for once you were beaten to the punch. I already posted a coupla pages of this issue.

Edited to add: Went and checked and "a coupla" is two and one third pages. Following the four page rule for recent released, you need to trim to one and two-thirds pages...

I'm 98% confident that this isn't what it looks like.

I am really losing interest in Tom King. Making Catwoman a serial killer is a big mistake.

Catwoman has always been a reluctant villain and a very redeemable character. Making her into an arrogant, sycophant, who enjoys killing people like a cat enjoys killing mice is a big mistake.

Any romantic interest in a hero like Batman now seems forced and without depth.

You're using the word serial killer, but i don't think it means what you think it means.

Catwoman is a mass muderer, but not a serial killer.

I don't think it's meant to be read as Selina being a sycophants that enjoys killing. She had a deep, personal reason for offing the people that she did. The moral dichotomy between Batman and herself is the strenches a bit, but she's definitely not a serial killer

I think it's worth noting that the people she killed were terrorists who were on an ongoing genocide campaign and specifically targeted children at orphanages. It's not like she picked random people off the street for crap and giggles.

I'm not happy that they have decided to bring mass murder into her backstory. Especially since Batman already has a character with that particular issue in his own family, so it's not even a fresh take or anything, been there done that.

But let's be honest: if she had been wearing a uniform when she killed them, she would have been celebrated as a national hero.

Not having read this so unfamiliar with the storyline, but from the comments I can infer this: Selina took out a bunch of terrorists, saving children in the process. That it went to trial, I get. BUT, the best attorneys able to work in Gotham or the state its in should have been lining up around the block the represent her. Which judge who seeks reelection will pronounce her guilty when she saves kids? Appeals alone should have taken years. Her being on Death Row? Extremely unlikely.

Of course, this is Gotham so its probably a setup.

Hmmmmm.... if you kill a lot of people and enjoy it, I would say you are a serial killer. Revenge or not, the lack of remorse is the biggest clincher for me.

I think this issue does a great job showing how Catwoman may have began in a better place but the bombing has really changed her.

She kills Psycho Pirate and his girl even after Batman told her in not so many words that he needed him alive. Last issue, when she was remembering killing all those terrorists, she looks back on it all with admiration for how "efficient" she was and how "they never knew she was there".

Earlier in this issue, she talks with the Ventriloquist, a guy who has a known darker side to him, about her own dark side and how it "has it's claws deep inside" her.

What I take away from all of this is that the bombing changed her into this remorseless killer, who finds satisfaction in killing threats to her and those she cares about. Sort of like Frank Castle, she gets off on killing bad guys and yes, The Punisher is a serial killer, not a hero. We may root for him but that should just tell us something about ourselves and not him.

And even if you have a uniform on in a legitimate international conflict, killing lots people and enjoying it makes you serial killer in my book. Sane people feel remorse, even when they kill their enemies.

Except again, what Selina did doesn't classify as serial killing. It's Mass Murder.

So what is the difference between the two for you?

Serial killing, according to experts, is a compulsive behavior that keeps recurring. It doesn't matter whether the perpetrators 'enjoy' it or not; in fact, there are cases where the perpetrator experiences immediate remorse and regret following the act, usually expressed through care given to the remains.

So, like the difference between the Joker and the Calendar Man?

Okay. That makes sense. I was wrong. She is a mass murderer and not a serial killer. I guess I just don't normally make that much of a distinction between the two.

It is still pretty unsettling that this is the turn they have taken with her.

Being a cat-burglar means you're evil or a murderer these days.

Pretty sure that was Punch and Jewelee, not Psycho-Pirate.

I'm still waiting for all of this to be a multi-level, double-fakeout, super-sekrit Batplan that, for some reason, needed Selina to be in Arkham in the first place, where she was taking the fall for someone else.
