I'm not going to mention politics specifically, but I will share a new word I learned this week;

Kakistocracy - Government by the least qualified or most unprincipled citizens

I can't imagine why that seemed relevant....

I hope everyone survived Black Friday intact, or took part in the far less stressful sounding "Buy Nothing Friday".

After about 18GB of downloads, patches and copious swearing in my most Scottish accent, I've managed to get my Year 2 characters and levels of LEGO Dimensions updated and working!

My thanks for previous podcast recommendations, I'm particularly enjoying The Bright Sessions, a series about a therapist and her "Atypical" patients (eg superpowered) that manages to be fascinating in a very "original New Mutants" sort of a way as we see how their abilities have impacted their day to day lives (The progression of the young empath trying to sort out his emotional life is adorable)... There are a few interesting subplots too.

I looked long and hard for whimiscally distracting news stories, but they seem in short supply, so if anyone has any local news of that sort they'd care to share, that would be awesome.

Is LEGO Dimensions worth buying? I love LEGO games, but it looks very different, what with all the strange toy crossovers and all.

I'd say so, especially now it's cheaper, and you can get some of the year one figures at very good prices.

It's the weird crossovers that make it fun.

Unlike Disney Infinity, which kept all it's licenses separate, thus missing the point IMHO (So you couldn't have Jack Skellington fighting on the Spider-Man level, or Baloo meeting Groot in the Guardians level), LEGO plunged right in and guaranteed you COULD... any combination is valid.

You can literally have Sonic the Hedgehog, riding the Hogwarts Express, fighting Sauron on top of a Dalek Flying Saucer. Or Batman and Gizmo the Mogwai teaming up on a Mission Impossible level. And the characters do havecute little interactions with each other regardless of their origin (The Cyberman is jealous of Cyborg's cooler looking upgrades... Aquaman is delighted to discover that his telepathy works on more than fish because he just understood what that dog said, then realises it's Scooby Doo)

Admittedly the gameplay can get a little repetitive, but in terms of character it's gold (and it looks like some of the new levels are adding new gameplay options)

Oh, and some hardcore British geeks wrote this thing so the Doctor Who level alone is a love letter to the series' entire history. (Helped immensely by the BBC making the actors available to record new material (they had accss to Peter Capaldi, Jenna Louise Coleman, Michelle Gomez, John Barrowman, Dan Starkey, Neve Campbell and Nicholas Briggs which helps a lot because the likes of the original Ghostbusters level, was limited to audio clips from the movie)
