Created by Akane Shimizu, this is a series in the same vein as Osmosis Jones and Inside Out, the personification of the things within your body that make it work. In this case, this is a series about cells and the jobs they do to make your body healthy and safe.

The first chapter is available to read in its entirety for free on Kodansha's website, but here's a look at most of it here if you can't look at their reader.

Also, warning for blood.

Our story begins with a female Red Blood Cell, new to the force, delivering an oxygen package to a cell. As she goes to make her next delivery, trouble brews!

Suddenly, someone shows up and slashes the virus's neck open, killing it!

The White Blood Cell from before shows up to save the day, but the bacteria shows out a bacterial capsule net and traps the two cells, allowing him to escape.

With the body having a weaken immune system (aka the White Blood Cells are short handed at the moment), our WBC is stuck having to seek the bacteria by himself. His receptor indicates that the monster is still by, but he doesn't know where he is. So both blood cells travel with each other on the way to the lungs...

The two help the Platelets out with their building material and continue on their way. Suddenly, a large monitor blares!

The two continue on their way and eventually reach the lungs. Both separate and go their own ways, the bacteria nowhere in sight. However, when RBC is all by herself in a private room and dropping her package off...

He plans on using this area to infect the lungs and all that jazz, preventing her from escaping and calling for help. However, another twist as someone pops out the vent...

WBC isn't exactly strong enough to fight him head on... so he gets a bit crafty and lures it into a trap!

KAAAAABOOOOOOMMMMM!!! Goodbye bacteria.

And now it's time for our protagonists to say goodbye...

And that's the first chapter of Cells At Work! This debuted late last year, but it was one of my favorite new manga debuts. I hope you if you liked what you saw, you check out more. Lot of interesting tales so far involving cuts, heat stroke, cancer, allergic reactions, and more.

My thing is educational comics, so this looks AWESOME! I'm so pleased it exists!

(As a kid, I was convinced that writing sci-fi where really, it's all normal stuff at the microbial level would be amazing. I still think so, but no way do I have the chops.)

This is awesome. It's like a G-rated version of the closing sketch, "What Happens During Ejaculation?", in Woody Allen's Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* (*But Were Afraid to Ask) .

This reminds me of that old Microzine game for the Apple II series where, at the command of Major Surgery, you had to go inside the body of General Anesthesia and team up with Arby See (RBC) to stop villains who were trying to kill the general.

Ugh, I want to read this series, but I *do* have a thing with blood! I'd have to stop and lie down every 5 minutes while trying to read it...

Be Careful Who You Call Ugly in Middle School

This is pretty good. Do the next chapters always have RBC and WBC as main characters, or do they focus on other body parts?

Does that all happen to a single person...?

I mean, I love the cells and everything about it, but imagining each one of those problems striking a single human is kinda masochistic.

This seems really fun. I'm reading too much between Tokyo Ghoul, My Hero Academia, The Ancient Magus Bride and a few others, but I'm definitely sticking this on order. Thank you for posting!
