So for context, here's a link. Basically a follow up to Sean Spicer's response about the inauguration's size...

I'm so confused by the term 'Alternative fact'. I mean, that feels like an impossibility. You can have alternative interpretations and views, but not alternative facts.

So are we. It's been all of two days and we're already retreating into the Bush II era of vocabulary as camouflage.

Can't wait for the comeback of "enhanced interrogation."

Please, Trump makes Bush look like Obama. At least Bush's lies and ridiculous euphemisms served purposes other than feeding his own inflated ego...not good purposes, mind, but at least purposes beyond I Am The Greaterest.

I actually get the feeling that GWB was smarter than he looked, just that he's not particularly great in terms of presenting himself publicly, resulting in his numerous flubs.

That said, he at least flubbed things he was supposed to be talking about, rather than repeatedly lapsing into ranting and going off subject, from what I recall. And he at least seemed to take the things said against him better than Trump, who.. Well, he's no longer allowed to shriek like a child on Twitter, but seems content to yell and lie his way through conferences or dispatch his press guy to do the same.

My impression was always that GWB was smart, but intellectually incurious. He was more than willing to pass the mental 'heavy lifting' to the subordinates he'd surrounded himself with who were supposed to the smartest guys in the room...and to be fair, many of them were..they were also supervillians like Cheney. I think that by his second term, Bush had figured this out somewhat too late, as he realized he'd let the more moderate people get pushed aside.

Yeah, after the fact I've read of so many instances where Bush's immediate response to a situation his aides brought before him would have been one I approved of, and then Cheney would talk him into picking the most evil option instead.

I suppose it's far more impressive that they were able to bamboozle Colin Powell into believing Iraq had WMDs and supporting invasion in response.

The purpose here is, arguably, to acclimate us to lies.

But enhanced interrogation isn't a contradictory term. It is a fluff term for torture, sure, but it still have meaning.

Alternative fact basically removes meaning from fact as there are no such things as alternatives for them.

This is a post-truth society. It doesn't matter what is actually true, only what you feel in your heart, gut, or genitals, whichever you care to listen to at the moment.

"For someone who has been covering Vladimir Putin and Russian politics from Moscow for long enough, like me, it sounds all too familiar. Watching Trump’s press conference rang a lot of bells: the evasion, the bare-faced lies, the failure of the astonished members of the press to rally around their colleagues singled out for abuse. "
