Something that I always loved about this story was that they made Babs and Kara feels different without Bruce and Clark having been there. They became their own unique characters instead of these copies of existing versions.
But this Vector has neither a beard, golden wings or so much as a single kindly claw! ... think maybe he meant to call himself "Plectron" and got confused?
Man, this is much better than I expect....oh, Barbara Kesel. Carry on, then.
I really find the whole idea of Bruce Wayne as actually being the vapid character he portrays in Batman, but still having the Wayne sense of charity and responsibility that has him bankrolling Batgirl. I like that these characters feel different.
It is odd how many of these elseworld stories seem to end up showing Kal-El stuffed in a tank somehwere, but I guess that's just what you need to do, sometimes.
This story was always one of my favorite Elseworlds. A little cheesecakey, yes (did we really need to see Barbara getting into the Batmobile in her underwear? Or in such a cleavagey robe at the end?), but I loved the characterization and the world-building, and the plot was nicely gripping.
And it may not be quite as much of a big deal these days, but back then I absolutely loved having a story where the gender balance was so much better than most of its contemporaries, and there are numerous notable minorities in the team, and none of this is considered odd or something that needs explaining! Women are heroes. Captain Marvel is black. That's just how it is.
Yeah, it's good, but there's a couple of elements that are a bit hard for me to swallow. For one thing, I'm used to seeing Bruce as older than Barbara, so I'm a little put off by him making a suit-up machine that requires her to be half naked. Also, there's the scene with tiny Barbara holding a gun. Bit narmish, that.
