[standard catty remark about Inhumans]

Ah, the Geoff Johns run.
And the Red Zone, wherein the Red Skull unleashes a bio-attack across America which must have killed thousands... and it'll never be mentioned again.
Because, y'know, massive death clouds are so overdone.
(It's not like the Avengers would ever need to deal with a massive death cloud eeevvveer again...)

(This was part of the first Avengers comic I ever bought. You'd think I'd be nicer about it.)

... y'know, Carol's stint as Warbird... the outfit's not bad. I mean, the whole "padded leather armour" look is very early-to-mid-00s, and not very distinctive (and also redundant for a flying super-strong gal. Anything that can get through her skin isn't going to be stopped by a few centimetres of body armour)... but it's not terrible.

Also, did Geoff Johns ever give a reason as to why Jack and Scott hated each other so much?

To be fair, I think thousands of deaths due to some superhuman or terrorist is something that happens a few times a year in the MU. Its probably like school shootings to us.

So... I kind of had to keep thinking about that connection. There is a school shooting about every week in the US. Most people probably can't name more than a few.

If the villain attacks, Hulk rampages, massive fights etc can be assume to be about like this in lethality, say 1-2000 deaths each, and have the same frequency as school shootings, that means around 78 000 dead per year. About twice the number of traffic fatalities.

Assuming most people have 50 -100 speaking acquaintances, in a population of 300 million, that should mean you'll lose one of them per lifetime, and someone you know will lose someone they know once or twice per year. So personalized loss once a year roughly.

Now if we count serious injuries, and keep traffic fatalities as a marker, they are a bit more than 50x as common as deaths... I wonder if MU US healthcare is as expensive as ours.

My maths could be off here, but I think it gives some perspective as to why MU citizens are quick to fear supers.

This was an era of bad costumes.
I'll agree that the original Jack of Hearts outfit is a gaudy nightmare, but this one just sucks. Same for that bland thing Carol is wearing. Scott's is okay, but it's not an improvement on the classic Ant-Man helmet. And... is that Wanda? Eh.

Wanda's outfit isn't terrible.
(It's a little overdesigned, but it's a damn sight better than any of the outfit's she's worn over the last half a decade.)

And I think Jack's outfit is just terrible because it's being worn by Jack of Hearts.
Guilt by association.
(His previous outfit was so much worse.)

I will never understand why people were so insistent on changing Carol from that Warbird costume she wore back in the late 70s and at the turn of the millennium. It was a classic, as long as the artist wasn't trying to make it a thong.

Yep, the lighting-bolt swimsuit was distinctive, and It's one of my favourite superhero costumes. So long as they don'tmake it a thong.

Not sure what to make of Wanda's outfit. There's nothing wrong with it, but it looks way too much like a red version of Raven.

But it's definitely better than, say, the Force Works cocktail dress, or the pre-Onslaught period where she was briefly a redhead,

Only because she's got her hood up at the moment.
Once the hood's down, it just looks like a slightly busier version of her usual swimsuit outfits. (And also not like a swimsuit.)

"I will take off my helmet, which I wear on my head, against my skin, and carry it under my arm into the cloud of disease." I sure hope he remembered to wash it out before putting it on again.
