Urg, I can't help it. Despite all the pointless gore and the "hard men" posturing that he keeps including, I still really like Garth Ennis' War comics. I mean, his actual proper War Stories are better than this (especially Anna Kharkhova), but I still find them very effective and well-done.

At least he's writing what he likes. It gives them a particular energy, an enthusiasm, even if I personally find his military adoration to be misguided.

Atleast the Anna Kharkhova one didn't have the brave Nazi soldier respect bullshit going on.

As usual, Americans don't want to kill enough Nat-zees and Communists have to pick up the slack.

Did something else happen between Fury putting the guy on the chopper and entering that daze?

And my, the enemy is nothing of not cordial (albeit firm) with him.

Huge pitched battle, as I recall, and Fury gets knocked ass over tea kettle. Haven't read this since it came out, guess it's time for a revisit.

A North Vietnamese guy once told me that, in their modern school history of the American War, the Americans are depicted as misguided rather than evil. The vitriol is saved for the South Vietnamese govt/military.

Parts of this are the typical Ennis overbearing 'hard men making hard choices' stuff...and the 'I am comical Nazi stereotype, ja?' bit is overdone...but parts of it are where Ennis really shines in his war comics.

The 'This is not French Indochina, this is not French anything.' line is quite good.
