Entertainment Weekly confirm that the director of the hugely enjoyable LEGO Batman movie Chris McKay is being tipped to produce a live action Nightwing movie!!

He's more of an animation director so far, his track record including Robot Chicken, Moral Orel and Titan Maximum but based on LEGO Batman you can't deny he's prepared to have some FUN with the concept of costumed superheroes (which the DCCU is so sadly lacking, thought their TV shows seem to have gotten the hint).

Bill Dubuque (The Accountant) is set to write the script.

And as a bit of a teaser, here's Mike Allred's cover for a forthcoming Batman '66/Wonder Woman '77 series, where we have appearances from Batgirl '66 (will she be Batwoman '77?) and Robin '66 (definitely Nightwing '77!) (Well, technically Nightwing 84, but I'm prepared to let that slide!)

OMG! How could I not have noticed that it's got flared sleeves AND BELLBOTTOMS!! :D

I would be more excited about this, if the DCEU wasn't the train wreck that it is. With rumors swirling about how bad the WW movie is turning out to be, Affleck's disinterest in reprising the role of Bats (Batman/Bruce being the only thing I liked about BVS) and the meh, that was Suicide Squad, I don't have much faith left when it comes to these films.

Well, it wouldn't surprise me if the WW movie was bad, but even with all the bad signs for BvS, I waited to see it first. And, yes, it turned out to be a slogfest, but I'm still going to wait with Wonder Woman. She's beaten long odds before! :)

I wish I could give the DC movies that kind of benefit of the doubt, but at this point I refuse to give them a dime until a movie gets rave reviews.

Wonderful news! I know a lot of people must be very happy about this, given Nightwing's long history and devoted fanbase. Though I wonder who the antagonist will be. Does Nightwing have a rogues gallery of his own?

It'll probably be Blockbuster.

I followed the link and my take away from the post was that, to my incredible shock, Greg Land knew how to draw a long, long time ago. It's almost unbelievable how much his work has change for the worst.

PS: Have you manage to get our problem resolved?

Yea, he's got a couple. A few big names (which the others have mentioned, Deathstroke being the largest), plus a number of minor ones. Lady Vic (assassin, something of a 'great white hunter' type who kills using weapons passed down through her family from their hunts), Shrike (League of Assassins member who's mentor was killed in an incident involving Dick and Two-Face), Double Dare (acrobatic thiefs), Eletrocutioner (electric-type).

Oh yes, Crazy Quilt is a Dick Grayson villain ^^

I won't deny that my first reaction was horror, but I also really really want a Nightwing live action film, so I guess I'll leave my reservations aside for now and just be excited. The one thing I rly want is some kind of little flashback to Dick's Robin days, but other than that I'm curious to see what they're gonna do with the film.

I think they might have to show something. Most moviegoers think of Dick Grayson as Robin and will be confused otherwise.

Great to hear! I hope WB doesn't screw it over like Fox does with the X-men.

I didn't read the article, but I assume that since this is Hollywood that Nightwing is going to be a vampire who shoots lasers out of his butt, right?

So long as there's SOME focus on his butt...

Yeah, this is what happens when you have one movie that was clearly standalone, or just intended to be a Superman movie, that then gets it's sequel repurposed to bear the strain on universe-building on it's own with no build-up.

It's almost like doing this mostly organically... or letting directors do their own thing - like Nolan or even Burton - can yield more interesting, palatable results. Who would've thought?

I've actually heard some very positive reviews for the Wonder Woman movie recently, maybe they re-edited?

Oh. I only read that the LEGO Batman guy was doing a Nightwing movie and assumed it would be LEGO Nightwing. Disappointed, tbh :/

I've seen it noted, making a Nightwing movie before introducing a live-action Robin in the last decade is *such* a WB move.

Thing is.. It would kind-of make sense. If they're insisting on being stuck to the DKR-esque Batman with the dead Robin, it might make sense Bruce hasn't picked up another one since, whereas you could - as ridiculous as it would be - retroactively insert another former Robin in there who left and then stayed distant when Bruce started going all deep-end mcnutjob.
