I liked it better when the Celestials DIDN'T talk.

funny thing is celestials talking in that weird way started with the Neil Gaiman Eternals series.

And the dreaming celestial was only talking because it was crazy :)

Being crazy seems to be a common denominator with talking celestials.

I really loved Gaiman's Eternal miniseries, and especially the speech/rant the Dreaming Celestial gave. He really managed to convey the magnitude and unimaginable vastness of the celestials compared to normal minds, I thought so at least.

So did the Celestials Voltron into Arishem? I thought Arishem was his own being? Or do I just not remember what Arishem looked like?

That's not Arishem AFAIK, Arishem has a head like a space heater... well, moreso than most of the others...

The Celestials are Jack Kirby designing the ultimate robot-space-gods.... there is NOT part of them that is not more metal than the metallest thing you can thing of, metalled up even more.

What about a Celestial with a beard, an axe and a motorbike?

His head looks like a Kirbified coffee mug, and it looks like an upside-down Freemason's arc-and-compass on his kilt. Does anyone else see it?

Celestials have really gone downhill in the past decade or so. Remember when they were terrifyingly large and all-powerful, and now they're cosmic jobbers like everyone else?

Only possible explanation here is that these are alt-universe Celestials and thus not as impressive.

Celestials being taken down by Galactus or Franklin Richards at the height of his power is acceptable with enough wiggle room (since the comic makes it clear that even then it's pretty difficult - Val and Nathaniel have been stacking the deck in their favour).

Plus, y'know, they're meant to be insane. That might be draining them a little.

And it makes slightly more sense than someone who was previously shown to be unable to even scratch the buggers even at the absolute apex of their power suddenly having an axe than can kill them stone dead they never mentioned before.

"they're meant to be insane"

Celestials are so far beyond humans in terms of intellect and mindset, how would we be able to assess their level of sanity?

Well, they are called the "Mad Celestials".
That helps.

Also, when they were introduced, the Reed from their reality said they had gone mad... somehow, and started wanting everyone everywhere to worship them.
And a few issues back Franklin noted there was something off with them.

Not after the Celestials picked his brain apart, he wasn't!

... no, literally. He said he'd lost "it" after they were done taking him to pieces.

Remember the time when Scott, powered by Jean and an entire planet of superhuman beings, was able to blow off a Celestial's thumb, and that was a big deal?

That reminds me of Infinity Gauntlet where the Celestials were "drafting entire planets into the conflict" against Thanos and I was like "Yeah! Throw planets at him!...wait, planets? Planets don't do shit against God. Oh man, Celestials are much less awesome than I thought."

Maybe the planets were supposed to act like chaff? Break into lots of little pieces and confuse Thanos' feeble, merely-immortal senses?

Something like that. IIRC, the planets were a one-panel distraction to Thanos before other cosmic beings tried something even more cosmic on him. Which also failed, of course.

If I'm remembering right, that was also after he'd turned off all his gauntlet-derived cosmic awareness, in order to beat all comers with Power alone, but before he realized that plan was really stupid and stopped doing that.
