... Well, it is a mildly dramatic departure from the usual Superman image, I guess?
(Really, the one part that seems bothersome is Clark going "ain't". Y' can take the kid off the farm...)
The rest of the time, minor bursts of cockiness aside, he still acts Superman-y. Just... younger?

Compared to some of Morrison's other works of the last six years...
It's pretty comprehensible, sentence fragments and non-sequiturs are mostly only a problem towards the end, it was actually released on time...

Though... "street tanks"? As opposed to what? Suburban tanks? Uptown tanks? River tanks?

Still don't like "General Lane hates Superman for no good reason".
Never have, never will.

Well, it is a mildly dramatic departure from the usual Superman image, I guess?

It's more like a revisiting of the very earliest Superman image, albeit in a present-day setting. The original Superman casually and cockily threatened evildoers, no matter their place in the social hierarchy, with death. In his second-ever appearance, he did more than threaten: he sent a bunch of thugs plummeting out the window, their machine guns wrapped around their necks.

To be sure, Superman did all this in order to protect the oppressed, improve the living conditions of the poor, and prevent international conflicts--all the things he stands for now. But back then he was more than a little scary as to how he went about it.

You know, I get what Morrison was doing here, going back to the earliest Action Comics where Superman really was an anti-establishment firebrand champion of the oppressed.

But these days, Superman at odds with everyone feels... very off.

As an introduction, I kind of like it. Nuperman's characterization here feels very oddly Peter Parker-ish. I understand wanting the older SuperDad persona, but I wish they'd kept this one around.

Kind of wish Morrison had pushed some of the illegal immigrant angle and got a confrontation with Hal Jordan (who tends to be a bit Liberal Republican). The GL Corps may be pro-alien, but they're dislike uncontrolled alien movement into other aliens' territories. But that's my Green Lantern fixation speaking.. :P

It may be possible the Guardians deliberately kept the GL's from knowing about Clark and his rocket. After all, they were apparently able to see something of what he'd become in "The Greatest Green Lantern of All!"

Y'know, I always thought it was an idea if the ring noted Clark was a Kryptonian and got all weird with Hal, because it refused to take action against a critically endangered species.
(Because it seems like the Guardians might not want another dead species on their hands. The sort of Lawful Stupid idea that's typical of the Guardians - Do right, but in the worst way.)

Was there ever any explanation for where Superman found a Superman branded T-shirt in his first appearance before the Nu52 public?

I mean, it's not hard to make your own T-Shirt. He would've already had the pattern from the ship.

I love Luthor’s eyebrows, they’re not AS good as the "drawn on with marker" ones, but they’re still so much better than boring normal ones.

Never could warm up to the Nu52 Clark, but gotta admit I love him going after rich, corrupt businessmen. Now he'd have to go to Washington. ;)

I do like the "invasive species" argument for why Luthor and/or General Lane would want Superman gone. There's the flaw of there being only one rather than a breeding population in the real life example he gives, but when the single being is that powerful, I can get it. It's a better reason than "How dare anyone be better than me!" or xenophobia.
