Geez, there are a lot of people standing on tip-toes in those early pages.

-"You don't know what it's like, Cap. To be pariahs wherever you go!"-
Yup. I'm pretty sure the Irish-American has never known what it's like to be excluded based on what he is.
Thank goodness you're there to set him straight, tall, attractive white woman with a moderately successful music career!
(Oy... the point is sound, but maybe if it'd hadn't been Dazzler Stern had used to make it...)

Dazzler only got famous by hiding that she was a mutant though; when she was outed it ruined her career for a while and she was only getting gigs disguising herself as second fiddle in someone else's band when the X-Men recruited her.

I get your point about Cap, but nobody knew he was Steve Rogers at this stage. I can see why she'd think America's perfect hero who pals around with literal gods in a fancy mansion on 5th Avenue might be a bit out of touch with the realities of being a mutant.

also, she was a woman... she would automatically have it worse than cap.

So what's with Thor's appearance here? I don't remember this getup.

Also, Doctor Druid... didn't he resurface in some scans recently for some reason?

This was during the time when Hela had cursed him so he'd break easily, never heal, never die. The enchanted armor basically held him together as he got progressively more injured.

At this time, Thor was under a curse from Hela that gave him extremely brittle bones AND immorality (so he'd survive and suffer with any and all injuries he incurred).. He put that armor on as extra protection, but ditched it the moment the curse was lifted.

Immorality, eh? So, with every broken bone he became less worthy?

(I'll show myself out.)

Roger Stern does not seem to be a fan of the X-Men, nor Magneto and to be honest the constant obsession with X-Men 112 - 113 being a reason Magneto must be stopped is just... odd.

Also makes Cap look he has a huge grudge because he attacked Beast, like, once after he was reverted back to adult age. "He attacked an Avenger! And, yeah, also the X-Men were in trouble, too. I guess."

I know Stern had his conflicts with Claremont (including some stuff with Margali Szardos and her sorceress supreme thing --there's an issue of Doc Strange that reads as an especially nasty take that), but he's hardly the only Marvel writer that seemed at odds with the X-Office. Witnesses Shooter's treatment of them during the first Secret Wars, for example.

It's like a lot of people just couldn't cope with the fact that these once in danger of cancellation characters were becoming more popular than the more mainstream flagship characters.

I still can't decide if that was "The X-Men suck" or "Spider-Man is awesome."

Possibly both. I think Shooter pretty clearly viewed Peter as one of Marvel's flagships and that informed how he treated him.

Dazzler's pose at the bottom of the ninth scan....her poor anatomy. :(

Was this before the Mutant Massacre, when Psylocke joined the team? Or was it after?

I like to think the Blackbird noticed Druid even if the X-Men didn't.

Storm: Why is the "fasten setbelt sign" on?

Other X-Men: " What was that, Storm?"

Storm: " Uh ... "
