Finally found some time to post this. Sadly, it appears that this series has been cancelled with issue #8 due to low sales. There's been hints on the Facebook page that we might get more if the trades sell well, but yeah, not holding my breath.

Anyways, in this story, DW and friends go to their local Comic-Con! What could possibly go wrong?

Drake quickly realizes he might have stepped into his worst nightmare. He's in a room filled with people who dress like and admire his villains.

DW: What is going on here?! you're not supposed to admire the bad guys!
Gosalyn: Well, they do get all the best lines, Dad.

Meanwhile, Launchpad is trying out Cosplay.

Drake and Honker head for the guest artist tables to meet the writer and artist of Honker's favorite comic (who are totally not based on the actual creators, what are you talking about?)

Splatter Phoenix is a lesser known villain from the TV series, a rebellious artist who uses a magic paintbrush to give life to her drawings and to travel into works of art. She starts causing chaos at the convention so Darkwing appears to stop her, chasing her through different styles of comics. She first dives into a book from a booth with a sign saying "90'S COMICS! PLEASE, JUST TAKE THEM!"

I swear I laughed a full minute at this page.

DW's got Youngblood's disease!

Of course they have to end up in a manga...

And finally, the villain is defeated.

Everybody returns to the convention safe and sound while Splatter Phoenix is trapped in her comic ad (if you don't get the reference, google "marvel hostess fruit pie ads").

Oh, and Launchpad won the costume contest!

DW: I hope you like that unicycle, pal...because you're going need it to get home.

This just seems to nudge the line between parody and just mean spirited in a few places.

That line is very fine, on occasion.

It can also be tricky to figure out the difference between a satire and a parody. Supposedly it is as simple as "Scream is a satire, Scary Movie is a parody."

Shame it sold poorly, but not surprising. I loved DD as a kid, but it has been ages since I last saw it, and now I can't even remember half the cast. I kept looking at the scans in previous posts and thinking "who is this character again?" Same problem I had with the Gargoyles comics.

I wish Netflix or some other site like that offered old cartoons. I'd love to revisit childhood favourites.

I actually remember Splatter Phoenix, she died. Like she was in a painting and they tossed turpentine on it and she like died. It's pretty funny how 90's darkwing looks like Darkwarrior Duck. That Hostess ad parody though.

Damn, too bad about the book. With Sonic in question, I would gladly reallocate some of my money towards this. =\

Also, is Darkwing wearing a collared shirt and tie in the Mostess ad?

Oh, that's cool.

Too bad on the crossover thing, I liked it, but w/e.

Episodes of Darkwing Duck had "straight" comics book references:
"Time and Punishment" is "The Dark Knight Returns" more or less.
"Planet of the Capes" is "normalman." DW has to subsitute for Ordinary Guy and constantly get rescued by a planet full of superheroes.
