Apollo powers up and gets wrecked, the folk with interesting wide-ranging powers talk us through their effect, and Midnighter's the last one standing?

The familiar beats, they have been hit.

Giving credit where credit is due, I have to admit that the scene where Hawksmoore is speaking to the three cities is all kinds of awesome.

I'm torn. On the one hand it is awesome and one of my favorite scenes from the arc. On the other hand, the way Ellis portrayed Hawksmoore's connection to cities in his Stormwatch run -- as this intangible, primal hugeness -- is also really cool.

Unfortunately, the two takes are mutually exclusive. I mean, pop a city actually speaking to him in regular sentences into those Stormwatch issues and it just wouldn't work at all. It'd be like, I don't know, having a Celestial talking to a character.

I see where you're coming from. I guess Cornell wanted to approach the character and his power set in a different way. Or perhaps this concept being one where Jack's powers evolve and he begins to see the cities in a different manner, either as actual entities or it is how his subconscious processes the information he gets, like seeing patterns in clouds or ink blots.

Both interpretations are effective in their own way. It's a shame they can't co-exist.

Welp. That declaration is certainly an unexpected new approach for World Health Organization.

Nah - it ends with a question mark, so Betteridge's law dictates that the answer must be "no".

The appearance of Gotham's avatar raises a chicken-and-egg question about Batman.

Have you ever read Dark City or Grant Morrison's run?

When will DC learn WS works best in a separate universe, they have no place in DC.

They rebooted it as separate (albeit different) months ago, so I guess then?

It seems one of the problems with this title, aside from trying to put Wildstorm characters in DC (which personally isn't a bother, but hey), is that it's a rushed beginning.

Like, right from the off it's trying to be Ellis-epic rather than starting smaller, building the team up before getting into the Moon coming alive and attacking people.
Even Ellis doesn't usually start that crazy.

Also, some of the dialogue is astoundingly clunky, which isn't helping.
Not Cornell at his best, sadly.

... also also, seems a bit unfair on Gotham for it to be an ugly little gremlin thing.
Would've though it'd look more Two-Face-y, torn between the horrible crime-ridden parts and the more pleasant parts.
(And if that's what Gotham looks like, what the heck does Hub City look like? Or Bludhaven?)

I've see some people say the spirit of Metropolis looks like Lois Lane? Is that the general consensus?
