This mini felt more like the real Quire than Aaron's stuff did.

I just don't get this character. There's not a single thing likeable about him, for me at least. I can take a villain protagonist, a scumbag narrator, an overconfident Nietzschean, even a teenage power fantasy of revenge against the world—but they need to have something for me to emphasize with, you know? Else I'm just uninterested.

Well, for the original Quire in the Morrison run, the sympathetic aspect was that he was actually an idealist; he was trying to tear down every antiquated authority structure and every bit of hypocrisy he saw. But, as a hyper-cynical teen, he couldn't find anything real to build in its place. Plus, he got really unlucky in the drug he chose to experiment with. (There are plenty of drugs that'll hurt your health and/or make you dependent, but very few of them put you under the sway of an ancient macrogenetic intelligence.)

I don't know how he managed to go through all of that, followed by a massive mystical experience of telepathic union with everybody on earth, followed by death, followed by Phoenixhood, and come back as a generic petty jerk.

That's quite the background! After going through all that, they could have let him mature into the "seasoned, jaded but secretly hopeful révolutionnaire" archetype… if Marvel characters were allowed to mature, I mean…

Yeah, considering his very detailed and well thought out origins, and how they described an aspect of mutant culture that hadn't really been touched upon before and reflected very REAL relationships with oppression in our world, what we have now is grossly underwhelming, and telling of the writers not understanding or appreciating what he was originally meant to represent.

Actually, they don't. Need something for you to emphasize with, I mean. Why, isn't it normal to not_like a character and not_see something interesting in them? I have tons of those. Also I love Quire (though it is evident that different authors have contradictory opinions and inconsistent storylines for him).

That's the cover where they edited Quentin's P! badge for copyright reasons.

And I'm still surprised that, after all this time and his recent return to prominence, no writer has ever delved into his learning he was adopted, the event that sparked his whole rebellion in the first place! Who are his real parents?

My concrete headcanon is that he's Charles Xavier's son :D

Considering that the power he seems to be displaying here, of pulling people into a mindscape inside his own mind, is very similar to Legion's... ability to do something very similar...

Yeah, it's like Age of Q :D More 2-coop shooter than epic MMO, though!
