Tjhe announcement came through ScreenRant and within less than 12 hours, clarification has had to be made by the creator.

Which given recent Marvel related events is perhaps understandable, when the title of the series is

(The Cover for issue 2)

NIGHTWING: THE NEW ORDER is the story of a future world without “weapons”—where superpowers have been eliminated and outlawed. The man responsible? None other than Dick Grayson, a.k.a. Nightwing, now leader of a government task force called the Crusaders who are charged with hunting the remaining Supers. But when events transpire which turn the Crusaders’ aim toward Grayson’s own family, the former Boy Wonder must turn against the very system he helped create, with help from the very people he’s been hunting for years—the last metahumans of the DC Universe.

And some preview pages were released too

These images, and the blurb instantly led some of Nightwing's more devoted fans to believe that DC were making Dick a killer, and not just a killer, but a killer of heroes, which given he's the world's biggest Superman fanboy and counts a very large number methaumans amongst his friends and allies, seems a little counter-intuititve.

Of course the fact the writer is Kyle Higgins didn't help as his authorial past with Dick Grayson has been a tad contentious (He's a self confess Wingnut, but he's also the writer who one-upped Batman Beyond's "Bruce and Babs have a relationship", with Batman Beyond 2.0 throwing in Babs having a relationship with Bruce whilst Dick was out of town, and then not telling Dick when they resumed their former relationship but then her finding out she was pregnant by Bruce and.. Well, it was not the world's most popular plot points)

Now I bow to few in my admiration for Mr G, but I am also an old fart who is extraordinarily cynical and scepitcal about such things, Convereselt, I am also bizarrely optimsitic in outlook at times, trying to put the best spin on things in my head, so my assumption was that Dick is about the only person could pull a bait and switch on this scale. If he’s the one in charge of dealing with supers, he’s the best one to operate the underground keeping them alive when others might want them dead. He’d also be the only one that the majority of supers would trust in such a role, but that's complete speculation on my part.

However, the instant reaction has moved Mr Higgins to make the following tweet in his own defence... and since the first issue isn't even out until August 23rd that's quite the lead time!

I'll be interested to see where this goes, I hope.

(And I must post some more from Dick's current title, which has been interesting, if a little weird of late.
