Noscans: First Black Lightning trailer

Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a New Orleans neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero to his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life on the line, and seeing the effects of the damage and loss that his alter ego was inflicting on his family, he left his Super Hero days behind and settled into being a principal and a dad.

Liking the look of this. It's confirmed it's NOT in the Arrowverse, but a world of it's own.

I like he's an older man, with two adult daughters (Who are hopefully heading towards becoming Thunder and Lightning themselves)

They say this show won't crossover with the Flarrowverse. I'll pretty much only believe it when all five shows end without a crossover.

Once you've established easy interdimensional travel, it's hard to rule out possible crossovers.

I think the show was originally supposed to air on Fox, and if it had I would have said the odds of it not crossing over were pretty good (Although Flash and Supergirl had one when she was on CBS), but now that it's definitely on the CW I'd say it's inevitable.

As for the show itself, it looks all kinds of awesome:

"Is that your car? It was nice..."

And I love how the hero learns from his mistakes and circumstances. Man gets shot, man armors up. Hero gets older, hero upgrades his arsenal to compensate.

This looks really good, it has a different feel than the other superhero shows on the CW

It being separate from the other CW stuff definitely appeals to someone like me who can't be asked to dive into that mess anymore.

Sadly, the same creative team behind Arrow, Flash,... are on this too so I expect it to maybe get one good season out before going to shit. If it even gets the one.

I like the look of this show.
I kind of wish he still had his original outfit, but the current one will probably grow on me.

Is it just me or are the most conceptually unique and interesting superhero projects coming out in non-comic media (Jessica Jones and Luke Cage in particular) also just happen to be attached to non-white, non-male protagonists?

Hmmm, almost like there's some sort of a connection between willingness to step out of the targeted demographic box and creativity, huh?

It looks promising. The punches with lightning looked really cheap, though.

- Getting a Dark Knight Returns vibe from the premise. #2 of that book was gold.

- The shot with the hoods coming off the Impala (I don't know cars) killed it in tandem with the music! I can see why they led with that.

- So are his kids CW Thunder and Lightning?

- Man, the voice-over seems like it came from a separate editing process / creative direction. Some of the VO lines felt exposition-y, or could've been handled by the scenes themselves.

- Considering they're going to tackle Jefferson's teaching life, The Wire 4 should be recommended viewing for the writer's room - assuming they don't have a garliced-hissing-vampire reaction from the cumulative blackness.

- The 100? Shit, Black Lightning's going to fight Clarke Griffin?

- Maybe a new logo.

- Oh, hey, Costume Jr! I no-shitting love that trope. (See: Batman Begins, Flash/Arrow, Spider-Man: Homecoming). The new costume looks a bit bulky/repressive for combat, and it feels like the 'old' costume should've been the new one, but okay.

- I liked watching OG Jay Garrick in the Flash, so it's nice to see them taking a chance with an older-gen main character. Best of luck! Now do Abigail Hunkel.

I recently completed a reading project on pre-Outsiders Black Lightning for anyone who's interested.

The trailer looks like a trailer to me. There's potential for the show to be both good and bad. We'll see what happens.

I'm just glad somebody's doing something with Black Lightning again. I agree that it could be pretty good or pretty bad from what we've seen here.

Does Jeff seem more brutal then usual to anyone else?

Watching the trailer again, I'm even more inclined to think what I thought a day ago.

Highlight to read speculation: //
They're foreshadowing a switch to the daughters (or one of the daughters) taking over if Jeff is killed or otherwise taken off the board. And they'll probably do the switch pretty early, if not in the pilot then maybe in the first few episodes or at the mid-season break. //
