In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like. Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat amongst yourselves.

As we all know, the world situation is currently an endless kaleidoscope of kittens, puppies and baby otter photos, all set to a soundtrack of kd lang and Louis Armstrong.

Sigh, nope, I can't do it. I wish I could, but I can't.

Following recent attacks near the Houses of Parliament and the Manchester stadium blast, Britain had another terrorist attack this past weekend near London Bridge. Our thoughts go out to those impacted by this, or any other terrorist incident.

(And full marks to Ariana Grande for returning to Manchester for an impressively staged benefit concert so quickly)

Quite why the US President felt that right after the attack was an appropriate time to start a pissing contest with Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London (who has behaved with diplomatic aplomb throughout) is anyone's guess. With any luck it might put the nail in the coffin for any plans to give the Mangled Apricot Hellbeast the State Visit that our current PM ill-advisedly offered earlier in the year. It also means that his legal case about his travel ban on Muslims NOT being a travel ban but "Extreme vetting" is looking even weaker since he referred to it as "a travel ban" in one of his angry (Well, angrier than usual) tweets.

Speaking of the PM... Brits, we have a General Election this Thursday and by all you hold dear, if you can, PLEASE vote! If you're young and never voted and feel like your voice isn't heard, here is your chance to show that it is. It may not seem like much, but trust me, it's one of the most important things you can do. The Brexit referendum ended with the result it did largely because of voter apathy, especially in the disenfranchised young.

The Beatles seminal, ground-breaking album "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" celebrates 50 years since it's release.

The sequel to the more-perspective-distorting-than-turning-a-TARDIS-inside-out game "Monument Valley", called with remarkable originality" Monument Valley 2", was released last week.

And sort of on-topic but worth mentioning, Wonder Woman is enjoying phenomenal success, both critically, financially and in terms of word of mouth from those who have seen it, WAY beyond anything we might reasonably have hoped for. Just wanted to end on an upbeat note by mentioning that.

While I'm undecided about the whole episode, and whether the story necessarily needed three whole episodes to get there, that episode of Who was alright.
That scene on the boat between Bill and the Doctor probably elevated it. There was some proper Acting going on in there.
Even the music, which for the most part the last four years has been kind of non-existent, was giving it some welly.

Wound up watching TF: Prime on Netflix out of boredom.
... think the mid-point of season 2 is the best part, but that might have something to do with a fondness for non-linear storytelling.
Unicron is definitely the weakest part of that show.
Starscream's continued survival in the face of all logic and Arcee a'grabbing tight to a Jerkass Ball in season 2 are probably right behind him.
... really wish they had Beast Wars on Netflix. Or Animated. Or both.

Still incredibly upset by Peter Sallis' passing.
Gets you right in the childhood.

The Mouldering Monks wasn't even story enough for one episode let alone three, if you ask me. It was just a collection of set piece moments with very little in between. Now if they'd chosen next week's Sharpe Goes to Mars adventure as the three parter, then I'd probably be much happier. There is a lot of potential there, just from the trailers at least.

It is sad because I was enjoying this season of Who, with its newly rediscovered political edge, until the Monks thing just dropped a huge dud on it and robbed it of all momentum. Someone said on another discussion forum at the weekend that the storyline was originally three separate stories which Moffat thought would be cool to roll into a single storyline, and it does feel like three separate works (the simulation one, the lab accident one, and the subliminal takeover one) which really do not connect that well.

Also no Terileptils. This is an ongoing blackmark until I get them back.

As for the election. Guys, I know that the weather on Thursday is forecast to be torrential and that usually benefits the Tories, but please ignore the weather and go and vote. Do a little research and find out -if in a Tory seat- who the runner up with the largest minority was and just vote for them. If it is a non-Tory seat then vote for the incumbent party. Remember, Theresa May has quietly announced plans to fully privatize the NHS. If you value your free healthcare, this could be quite literally the last chance to save it. Once it is gone, it is gone.

I'm really glad a friend had Beast Wars on DVD so we could all watch it at our local Cartoon Night. The animation has aged badly, but the characters are still so great! It's still my only real exposure to the Transformers franchise.

I'm kinda the other way. I really enjoyed Lie of the Land, but man oh man, I was bored to tears by the preceding two episodes - they just didn't work for me. Couldn't quite put my finger on it, but found myself for the first time since Time & the Rani thinking about jacking in watching Who. It was almost enough to drive me back to producing my puppet episode reviews!

This was also the first episode that I really enjoyed Bill as a character, she's felt pretty flat all season...and yet we still no pretty much zero about her.

Do hope we never see the Monks (aka Silence 2.0) ever again, beyond the splendid make up they were dullllll with a capital dull.

Still looking for work, had a particularly trying day last Friday when it turned out the interview I was called in for was not "customer service with some sales" but "traveling salesman with some customer service."

"Tiger Mask W" is gearing up for its big finale; and referred back to the original series having a gruesome double kill. (So far the new series has had a total of one murder, way softer and lighter.) One of the new characters is a dark-skinned man named "Tiger the Black" which seems a touch insensitive. (The only other character with that skin tone was "Black Python.")

Weekly plug for my blog: I reviewed a classic novel satirizing Hollywood during the height of the silent era, Merton of the Movies. http://www.skjam.com/2017/05/30/book-review-merton-of-the-movies/

Pretty much. I'm just counting down the days until some nonsense he's pulled actually sticks and he gets Nixon'd. The guy just has no idea how to occupy his position. There's been unusual and apart from the norm for contemporary politicians, which would be fine, but his 'style' has no place in such a position. He's turning the Presidency into a laughing stock; have we ever heard of say, governors and mayors actually defying a federally pushed direction like that on climate change, for instance?

Aside from Lego Batman Wonder Woman is perhaps the best DC I've watched. Gal Gadots performance was impressive I look forward to her character present day. I can be critical when it comes to the depiction of Wonder Woman, character wise they portrayed her faithfully with the key part being sense of compassion and empathy.

Origin wise, I was not a fan of Zeus being the god that created the Amazons it was the goddess and Hermes its the most vital core to the Amazon's origins and Diana being another baby child of Zeus was a rather bland I was never a fan of the New52 rendition and trying to make it a staple just does a disservice to her character.

Overall a must watch.

That's exactly how I felt about Batfleck. Loved Ben's performance, and if you ask me, the Batman/Bruce Wayne scenes alone almost saved that movie, but Batman killing!? No sir. Unacceptable. It was a unnecessary change, just like the Zeus thing with WW.

My two thoughts are-
There's irony in going that route to, presumably, tie in with the comics only for the comics to have it retconned for a year by the time the movie comes out.

I picture her still being from clay, just Zeus zapping in more of himself. All they said was Zeus was her father, not anything else on the details being changed after all, and it's not like it'd be the weirdest way he's had a kid.

Really enjoyed Wonder Woman, but there was one (relatively silly) thing that has continued to bother me . . . .

SPOILERS
SPOILERS
SPOILERS

The choice of actor for Ares drove me nuts. I LIKED that it turned out that the quiet, unassuming British guy was secretly Ares and not the obvious choice of the violent German general, but IMO it would have been infinitely better if after revealing the truth, the mustachioed guy would have faded away and been replaced by the armored, intimidating Ares instead of him actually being the true form of Ares. I know it's ridiculous, but Ares being a little guy with a mustache just drove me nuts, especially that flashback scene where Ares is shown right after being cast down by Zeus millenia ago and he still has the freaking mustache! And I don't mean to knock the actor, there is nothing inherently wrong with the way he looks, he just didn't seem like the best choice for Ares to me. He should have been a disguise of Ares, not the actual god of war himself.

Take a look at this, Mars Resting

It hasn't been confirmed, but... it's a painting of the good of war from 1640, and I see a strong resemblance, so odds of it being a reference seem high.

If Shazam/Captain Marvel are going to be a part of the DCEU, Wonder Woman 2 will reveal Zeus and the other Greek gods aren't dead, just isolated on Mount Olympus unable to interact with Earth. The Wizard, Black Adam and Billy Batson are "proxies" or something.

Either Justice League or Wonder Woman 2 should have jokes about Diana's fashion choices throughout the 20th century.
"Not many can pull off flare jeans, Diana."
"Pulling them on was the hard part."

Some fans wonder if Diana is pregnant with Steve Trevor's child at the end of the flashback. Which would be both trippy and a reference to the comics.
"I'm a 65-year-old man, Diana."
"You're still my grandson, Daniel Hall."

Yep, it's pretty great!

Highest opening from a women director, and they had to adjust the ticket sales up from predictions *twice* (Looked to be tracking in the upper-90s, after first day they said 100.5, then after second they went up to 103.2 mil).

Greg Rucka's first run, for sure. I haven't read his current run, so I can't say. His previous run starts with The Hiketia one-shot, then #195 and on.

If it's among the sale, I'd also recommend JLA: League of One, where Wonder Woman not only has to face an ancient dragon alone, but has to ensure the rest of the League doesn't help her.

Sensational Comics was a short-lived series of short Wonder Woman stories by different creative teams. It's hit and miss, but when it hits, it's fantastic.

Jill Thompson's The True Amazon is phenomenal and gorgeous.

I haven't read a lot of either, but George Perez and Gail Simone's respective runs are quite good.

I started writing a new book recently. This would be my fifth (two of which are published so far). And it's a considerably different book for me. Not entirely different from what I've written in shorter work (stories, blogs), but certainly for something of this length.

I'm writing a memoir. I think you'd call it a memoir. I'm still unsure about the proper term. It's autobiographical, but completely focused on my life-long struggles with depression and general mental health.

Only, it's not a straight narrative of my life. It all takes place inside my mind, with facets of my personality becoming characters of their own. There's more to it than that, but that's the core.

In the past three days, I've already written 5,500 words. It's crazy. I haven't had this kind of work output in over a year.
