On a practical level, stories like this always kind of leave me wondering.

Tommy, (or whomever the professional killer is) is smart enough to stay one step ahead of the law, smart enough to avoid jail yet never takes the time to vet his missions?

He couldn't spend 10 minutes on google, and see if he was working for a douche bag or not?

Tommy is shown throughout Hitman to be a fairly rash and impulsive guy. His super powers and general competency get him out of a lot of messes, but there's generally not much of a master plan or really much thought other than "go in and shoot them". The rare exception would be the story with Green Lantern--and his actions there end up biting him in the ass later anyway.

I can easily believe his investigation of the job began and ended with dollar signs.

For whatever it's worth, Hitman is set firmly in the mid- to late '90s, at a period when a quick Google was not yet an option. At best, Tommy would have been able to type the name of the nation into Yahoo or its LexCorp equivalent, and it likely would not have been a satisfying search due to Tynanda's remoteness and its lack of interest to the outside world.

Additionally, due to pages that weren't shown here, Tommy and Natt ended the previous arc, "Who Dares Wins," as being widely blamed for the death of the local mob boss Men's Room Louie, which has left them with a significant price on their heads, and they're desperate to get out of the country so the heat dies down. They're also both broke. This job theoretically solves both problems at once, so they aren't that inclined to look into it.
