I hope this doesn’t come across as cynical, but I think this ripe for possible movie or TV-type interpretations. At DC, we had a 10-year head start on Fables over all the stuff that popped up where people said, ‘Oh, this reminds me of Fables, they should have just done Fables,’ and I agree with all those people. The people who were in charge of exploiting Fables in that regard just really, really dropped the ball. With First Comics, for toys, games, movies, TV, any of that, I have the absolute say on ‘Yes, we will do that/No, we wont.’ I’m tired of that decision being in other people’s hands. In a cocky, swagger-y sort of way, I’m interested to see if I can do a little better than the vast DC media machine in getting something like this underway. -- Bill Willingham

In all deference to the wonderful story the dragon told, 99.99% of all adventurers I've ran, and the guys who were in the same adventuring party, would have killed it when he got to the "no gold" part.

"Dragon parts still worth a lot?" "Yep." "I'm rolling to attack."

It's a shame the Fables tv show never got produced. Truth be told it would be better on FX or Showtime or HBO, Starz, etc instead of ABC.
I'm still bitter that Once Upon a Time is absolutely terrible. The Lost writers really messed up

At least there's Telltale for mostly good, episodic/serialised content.

I'm still kind of amazed there isn't a lawsuit over Once Upon A Time. Didn't they choose to produce it after considering Fables? That feels an awful lot like "Cool concept, but we're gonna steal it for our "original" show and not pay you licensing fees."

I guess the whole public domain aspect of the characters is enough to make it tricky to sue over the basic concept, especially when "fairy tale characters in modern times" wasn't completely original to begin with (just the execution).
