"Here is the long dead body of your ancestor, good luck explaining this to the authorities... Laters!"

Ummm.... that got rather grisly all things considered (A few minutes to explain things might have helped immeasurably)

I would rather hope the Dowd's continue the tradition, as that seems to be a more valid living memorial than a gravestone would be, nice gesture though it sort of is intended to be on Superman's part.

It wouldn't be classic superman without ONE bit of supderdickery, would it?

Altough, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the authorities have a procedure in place.

"So, Mr. Dowd, would you mind telling us, did the deceased come back as a zombie?"

"Was he an ancient warlock who kept himself alive through magic but the destruction of his source of power made him age rapidly?"

"Was he friends with Dorian Grey?"
"Not that i know of"

"Was he time displaced into apokolips and then murdered by the omega beam of Darkseid?"
"Superman brought him to us"

"Was he time displaced into Apokolips alongside Superman and he died protecting Superman from Darkseid's Omega Beam?"

SuperDick Lives!

What do you think the chances are that that elderly relative had a heart attack and now you have two corpses on your front lawn?

If not, how are you going to explain the body to the authorities? "Superman left a note" doesn't hold up unless he comes back to verify it.

Best case scenario, this person has nightmares for the rest of their life.

Also the expressions on Jon and Lois' faces on the cover suddenly make a lot more sense.

Clark: And over there is a dead body, son.

Lois: WTF Clark?

While I choose to believe that these people appreciated the gesture, I also think Supes could and should have explained himself in person rather than flying off like that and leaving a note.

Or at least left the body and note with the local county coroner. It would be no less a meaningful gesture if the body was left with a professional in both arranging for funerals and breaking news to relatives.

Accepting the award for League-Best Ding Dong Ditch, Founding Member Division...

The silent panel method for that underwater scene probably would've been a better way to pull off that ending - keep words out of the resolution and trust the readers to fill in the blanks.

Also, did someone cast a Freaky Friday spell on Tomasi or something?

How do run a DNA sample unless you have something to compare it to? Supes, did you steal a DNA sample from the guy's descendants?

Thanks to X-Ray and microscopic vision, he could probably draw the DNA chain from memory.

Why am I now suddenly certain that there will be an upcoming story in which Clark has to use super DNA-editing skills...

I'm pretty sure that's only able to happen and I'm pretty sure that's happened in the Silver Age where Supermaan can pretty much do anything if it's convienent to the guys writing at the time. See for example, super-ventriloquism when dealing with Bizzaro.

I feel like this would have been better if, say, Uncle Sam had showed up to provide most of this information as a favor to a fellow crusader for Truth, Justice, and the American Way. Since he's the living spirit of the country, it wouldn't come off so much as a bunch of awkward lectures. (Plus, it would have been written out in his Foghorn Leghorn accent, which would have been fun!)

Have we seen Uncle Sam in the New52?

Never mind what he must be going through right now as he adapts to the Trump administration.... which is probably the metaphorical equivalent of piles, or a kidney stone, for him.

ok yeah.... I was okay with this up until he left the BONES OF AN OLD MAN'S ANCESTOR ON HIS DOOR STEP!

it could have gone...

"Now, sir.... I had a conversation with the Kents, nevermind how I know them. Your story touched me. Now, I know this might be weird, or even kinda creepy... but umm... I brought the bones of your ancestor to be given a proper burial..."
