My God, the animation is gorgeous! And it's always great to see the Prowler. I've always loved his design - and wished Miles was more like him. I mean, I like Miles, but I just can't get into characters who need alternate universes to explain their origin, I'd just prefer he exist in the same world as Peter, instead of complicating everything :/
You would think that would be case, and for this movie I would vastly prefer it to be the case, but the subtitle does strong suggest if not outright state that this story is going to involve multiple universes.
I like Miles' origin well enough, but at this point it seems that if he's going to stick around and Marvel isn't going to bump off Peter Parker entirely, they desperately need to give Miles a new origin that avoids this kind of thing.
Right, but the multiverse part isn't part of his origin. But yes, it does seem like there will be multiple universes and Liev Schreiber is supposedly voicing Morlun.
Not a fan of the "Spider people" inhabiting the same universe, nor am I a fan of mantle passing (unless it's the Bat mantle being passed from father to son/Dick) so this is a regrettable pass for me. Miles seems to be getting shoehorned into everything these days.
No, I know this was made for him, but he's been shoehorned into other projects, like the Spider-Man Ps4 game that's being made, and the Homecoming movie essentially shoehorned him into the MCU by way of his uncle Aaron. The kid is everywhere...i think he even shows up in the new Spider-Man animated series.
I don't mind him being referenced, what I'm worried about is him taking over. It feels like Peter's only purpose now is to bulldoze the a path so Miles can set up shop. How long before they kill off Peter in the MCU, and replace him with this guy? Not feeling it at all.
I wouldn’t worry about that happening. After all the work it took to get Peter in the MCU and for there to be a decent Spidey reboot after two mediocre films neither Marvel or Sony are going to shoot themselves in the foot like that and kill him off. Miles might show up in some capacity down the line but Peter will still be Spidey.
I think Tom was out his teens by the time they finished Civil War, but so what? They squeeze a few films out of Tom (introducing, and building up Miles along the way) kill Peter off, and then cram Miles in there. You seriously think they're gonna allude to Miles existence in the MCU, but not do anything with him?
Again... have we been watching the same movies? It took them ten years to give Black Panther his own movie. it's more likely that Iron Man takes over the Spider-man films than them replacing peter for miles.
Yeah, of course they’re going to allude to something without planning to follow it up, that’s how cameos work. Just like they did with all the stuff in the vault in Asgard in the first Thor movie. They threw a bunch of random stuff in and didn’t do anything with most of them.
I don’t have an opinion either way on the Miles reference but Tony being there was relevant to Peter’s character arc. It wasn’t some glorified cameo like Falcon in Antman or Dr. Strange in Thor 3.
Then I think we will not be able to agree on this topic. Because I actually did like Tony in there. I just pointed out that claiming that having a reference to miles is the same as Miles being Shoehorned in is absurd. it's just disliking that the character exists at all.
To be clear, Peter is supposed to be a self made hero, and i feel that Tony has WAAAAAAAY too much involvement in Spider-Man's development. He's almost a tech Uncle Ben...And I don't like the he exists in the 616. Like I said...thats too many Spider people for me
That trailer was a real roller coaster, it really built up my hopes and then left me with some very mixed feelings. The animation is gorgeous, and the whole vibe is very on point, this already looks outright cooler than Spider-Man: Homecoming.
That being said, the "Into the Spider-Verse" subtitle has me very wary. I've never liked the whole Spider-Verse conceit, to me having Spider-Man be part of some weird multiversal Green Lantern Corps is missing the point of the character, plays into the excess of Spider characters that Marvel has right now, and its inclusion suggests that rather than getting a story focused on Miles Morales and his supporting characters, we're probably going to get some overblown end of the world thing going on. I'm not going to be impressed if Prowler and the rest of Miles' supporting cast gets 15 minutes of screen time and then we spend the rest of the movie on fucking Morlun or whatever.
I kind of get why they're going in this direction though, given that Homecoming already did the (by superhero standards) more grounded and lowkey story, and kinda stripped Miles' mythos for parts (turning Ganke into Ned, the take on Mac Gargan/Scorpion).
Very mixed feelings about this. It looks good, great even, but what we're seeing suggested about the premise does not make me optimistic.
